Marshall County Prosecutor Files Drug, Prostitution Charges against Plymouth Man

Marshall County Prosecutor Nelson Chipman filed five charges against 68-year-old James A. Irwin, of Plymouth, who is suspected of drug dealing and solicitation of prostitution.

Irwin is facing felony charges of dealing in a schedule I, II, or III controlled substance, dealing a substance represented to be a controlled substance, and promoting prostitution. Two misdemeanor charges of patronizing a prostitute have also been filed. Additional charges are being considered by the prosecutor’s office.

Seven Arrested on Drug Charges

Seven people were arrested on Wednesday night after officers executed a search warrant at a home in the 100 block of Green Street in Plymouth.

As a result of a search of the home, Marshall County Drug Task Force officers along with officers from the Plymouth Police Department and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department filed charges of dealing marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, maintaining a common nuisance, and visiting a common nuisance.

Nappanee Man Injured in Motorcycle Accident

Investigators with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department are looking into a motorcycle accident that occurred just before 2 a.m. Friday morning.

Police say Daniel Meyer was riding his 2003 Harley Davidson on U.S. 6 just west of Union Road when he lost control in the curve. He then crossed the westbound lanes and left the roadway on the north side of the highway, according to the report. Meyer was airlifted to Memorial Hospital with head trauma.

Three Local Police Agencies Join Campaign to Arrest Drunk Drivers

Three local law enforcement agencies will be working to keep impaired drivers off the streets in the upcoming Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Plymouth Police Department and Bourbon Police Department will increase sobriety checkpoints, roving patrols and saturation patrols beginning in mid-August through the Labor Day holiday.

Marshall County DUI Task Force Successful in Recent Enforcement

The Marshall County DUI Task Force recently conducted a sobriety checkpoint in the 1500 block of North Oak Drive in Plymouth and several officers participated in that enforcement.

According to Marshall County DUI Task Force Coordinator Patrolman Troy Ulch, 153 vehicles were stopped while 195 vehicles were allowed to pass around the checkpoint. South Bend Man Arrested after Foot Pursuit

A South Bend man is in custody in his alleged involvement in numerous theft incidents in Marshall County. Joseph Cromey, 46, also reportedly ran from police.

On Sunday morning, a Marshall County patrolman was searching for a vehicle driven by a suspect in numerous theft cases. The officer found the vehicle at a home near King Road and U.S. 6. The officer recognized Cromey who led the officer on a high speed pursuit north on King Road before crashing at Tyler Road, according to a press release.  Cromey reportedly led police on a foot pursuit. The officer was able to apprehend Cromey by using a taser.

Plymouth Man Arrested on Drug Charges

A Plymouth man was arrested on drug charges on Monday after a short pursuit with police.

A Plymouth City Police Department officer saw Johnny Paul Whitt, Jr., 46, driving his motorcycle in the area of Skylane Drive and Michigan Street. Police say Whitt had an active warrant for his arrest and he does not have a motorcycle license.

Walkerton Man Arrested after Altercation

A Walkerton man was arrested Wednesday evening after allegedly threatening another person.

Marshall County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on Plymouth-LaPorte Trail after a call came in about a confrontation. Police say Aaron C. Sneed, 25, was talking with a 34-year-old man when the conversation turned hostile. Sneed allegedly displayed a handgun during the altercation and threatened the person’s life before leaving the property.

Sneed was later arrested and faces preliminary charges of intimidation with a deadly weapon, carrying a handgun without a license and driving while suspended. He is being held in the Marshall County Jail on a $3,000 bond.

Pursuit, Standoff Leads to Arrest

One person was arrested on Saturday night after leading several police agencies on a vehicle pursuit and a standoff in Marshall County.

An officer with the Bremen Police Department reportedly attempted a traffic stop in the area of West Shore Drive at Lake of the Woods. Police say the driver, Donald Dickson, Jr., refused to stop and led the officer on a pursuit on 4th Road. The 20-minute pursuit ended after Dickson lost control of his car and crashed into a cornfield at the intersection of Hickory Road and 9B Road, according to police.

New Paris Man Arrested after Accident

A New Paris man was arrested on Saturday after a single vehicle accident.

Police say Christopher M. Carmer, 34, was driving in the 1200 block of Jarrah Road in Bremen when the accident occurred. A Marshall County Sheriff’s Department deputy responded to the scene and believes that alcohol was a factor in the crash, according to a news release.

Carmer was arrested on preliminary charge of operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .15% or more.

Accident Injures Motorcyclist in Marshall County

A Plymouth man sustained serious injuries in an accident on State Road 17 and Pioneer Drive in Marshall County.

On Monday morning shortly after 10 a.m., Marshall County police say Mary Large of Plymouth was turning north in her Ford truck onto Pioneer Drive and failed to yield to the right of way. She reportedly turned into Clint Maddox of Plymouth who was riding his motorcycle westbound on State Road 17. The impact ejected Maddox from his motorcycle. Police say he sustained significant injuries. He was airlifted from the scene.

One Injured in Marshall County Accident

A Michigan man was injured in a two vehicle accident at the intersection of State Road 17 and 12th Road in Marshall County on Monday afternoon.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Addyson Allyn of Plymouth crossed into the lane of travel of Gary Reynolds of Edwardsburg, Michigan. Allyn’s Ford Explorer hit Reynolds’ white box truck head on in the collision.

Child, Dog Owner Bitten in Dog Attack

A Knox boy was injured Thursday evening after being attacked by a dog at the Jellystone Campground in Plymouth.

After an investigation, Marshall County Sheriff’s deputies say the boy went to a neighbor’s lot when the dog bit him. The 10-year-old was transported to the hospital for the injuries he sustained in the incident. The owner of dog was also bitten when he attempted to assist in the attack, according to police. The owner refused medical assistance.

North Liberty Woman Arrested for Drunk Driving

A North Liberty woman was booked into the Marshall County Jail after she was allegedly driving her vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Marshall County Sheriff’s deputies received a phone call shortly after 6 a.m. on Saturday about a driver hitting a parked car in the parking lot at the LaPaz Café. When officers arrived at the scene they say they found Melody Farnsworth passed out behind the wheel.

Two Airlifted after High Speed Collision in Marshall County

Two people were airlifted after a two-car accident on U.S. 31 north of 4A Road in Marshall County at the 230 mile marker on Monday morning.

According to officials from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, the accident occurred around 9:40 a.m. when a passenger car driven by Braden Taylor, 20, of Bourbon, rear-ended a Chevy Blazer driven by 55-year-old Kevin Wynn of Monterey.
