The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department will be strictly enforcing Indiana’s seat belt laws in a Click it or Ticket campaign beginning Friday, May 12.
Sheriff Matt Hassel said that officers are prepared to ticket anyone who is not wearing a seat belt in a moving car. Drivers who have not properly restrained children in a car seat will also be ticketed.
A La Porte man was arrested in Marshall County late Tuesday night after police allegedly found him in possession of narcotics.
An officer with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department conducted a traffic stop on U.S. 31 near the intersection of 16th Road. The officer reportedly found that the driver, John Sims, Jr. was impaired and in possession of numerous illegal drugs.
A Mishawaka man was arrested in Marshall County on Saturday night after a death investigation.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department received a call about a deceased man inside a home on Del-lo-me Lane in Plymouth. Jonathon McNeely of Indianapolis was identified as the man found dead and police say he died from a drug overdose.
Two people were arrested in the early morning hours on Sunday after a vehicle pursuit.
The pursuit began when a Bourbon police officer found a vehicle traveling 70 mph in a 55 mph zone at Lincoln Highway and Gumwood Roads. The pursuit continued for several miles through Marshall County at speeds well over 100 mph, according to the incident report. Officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and Plymouth Police Department joined the chase. According to police, the pursuit ended when the suspect’s vehicle ran off the road and collided with a tree on Queen Road near U.S. 30 in Plymouth. The suspects were taken into custody.
One person was injured after a vehicle/bicycle collision in Marshall County.
According to an investigation by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, 63-year-old Richard D. Murray, of Plymouth, was traveling west on Lincoln Highway east of Redwood Road on Monday evening when he struck Pamela Mahler-Lee, 50, of Plymouth, on a bicycle. She was transported to the Plymouth hospital after receiving minor injuries in the accident.
Driving while using the smartphone app Facetime apparently caused an Elkhart man to crash his car head-on into a semi truck near Bremen Monday morning. Officers with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department say it happened around 4:00 a.m. on U.S. 6 near Miami Highway. Continue reading
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department will be getting four new squad cars this year.
The sheriff’s department is trading in four multi-purpose vehicles used as spare patrol vehicles or transport vehicles as well as reserve unit vehicles. Three out of the four are Crown Victoria patrol cars.
Two vehicles date back to 2009 with the oldest trade-in vehicle being a 2006 Ford Taurus. One 2011 model is also being replaced.
A Walkerton man was taken to the hospital Monday after reportedly driving a pickup truck into a rural Marshall County home. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department says it happened around 7:20 a.m. in the 1500 block of Tamarack Road near Walkerton.
