Marshall County Sheriff Discusses Seasonal Deputy Wages with County Council

Lake Maxinkuckee patrol officers will get a boost in pay.

During Monday’s Marshall County Council meeting, Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel discussed wages for seasonal deputies who mainly work the lake patrol at Lake Maxinkuckee in Culver. A grant for wages was obtained by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and the Lake Maxinkuckee Association is providing a large portion of the wages.

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department to Hold Community Information Nights Later This Month

In order to connect with the community and showcase what the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department does, Sheriff Matt Hassel has invited citizens to attend some community information nights this month.

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department to Host Prescription Drug Take-Back Site This Saturday

According to a 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.4 million Americans have abused prescription drugs, with the majority of those medications obtained from the home medicine cabinet of friends or family members.

To help prevent drug addiction and potential overdose deaths, Sheriff Matt Hassel announced that the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department will be participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s 15th Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 28th. Continue reading

Worship Security Training Set for Tonight

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel is offering a training session to those in charge of places of worship who would like to keep their congregation safe from potential critical incidents.

The Indiana Sheriff’s Association has materials available to help church personnel create a plan that will help prevent violent acts and how to react to an incident if one occurs during worship services.

Inmates Assist with Sandbag Needs in Marshall County

Inmates at the Marshall County Jail assisted community members in need of sandbags on Tuesday.

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel and officers transported inmates to the Marshall County Highway Department where the trustees worked to fill hundreds of sandbags for area residents to deter the threat of flooding. The inmates were under the supervision of Marshall County Community Corrections Field Officers.

Sheriff to Buy Squad Cars, Presents DEA Report

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel asked the county commissioners Monday morning to purchase four new squad cars for the department.

Hassel explained that the four vehicles will be purchased from Oliver Ford in Plymouth for $103,996 which includes state bids quotes with trade-in values. Funding for the purchase is included in his budget for the year. The commissioners unanimously approved the request.

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel will be offering a course that will help officials at places of worship create security plans to keep parishioners safe.

The Indiana Sheriff’s Association has developed training materials for the sheriff to teach church personnel strategies to prevent incidents and how to react to a critical incident during worship services.

Marshall County Sheriff Announces Scholarship Opportunity

The Indiana Sheriff’s Association Scholarship Fund will be providing about $20,000 worth of assistance to Hoosier students looking to pursue a degree in criminal justice studies.

According to Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel, approximately forty $500 scholarships will be awarded to qualifying students throughout the state.

The scholarship is open to current college students or high school seniors who plan to major in a law enforcement field at an Indiana college or university as a full-time student. Continue reading
