Marshall County Attorney Creates Ordinance Establishing an Electronic Data Fee for the Sheriff’s Department

At the request of Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel, County Attorney Jim Clevenger created an ordinance establishing a fee for electronic data. The County Commissioners looked over the ordinance when they met Monday morning.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department has ordinances and fees for other public records requests for paper copies of things such as accident reports, gun permits and background checks but there was no fee set for digital copies.

County Attorney Clevenger noted that the Sheriff provided him with a suggested fee and the types of items to include in the ordinance. He noted, “The Sheriff wants to charge $15 for reproducing discs with conversations, videos, those kinds of things that he’s doing on a regular basis.”

The ordinance was considered on all three reading and was approved with a unanimous vote.
