Marshall County Sheriff Discusses Seasonal Deputy Wages with County Council

Lake Maxinkuckee patrol officers will get a boost in pay.

During Monday’s Marshall County Council meeting, Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel discussed wages for seasonal deputies who mainly work the lake patrol at Lake Maxinkuckee in Culver. A grant for wages was obtained by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and the Lake Maxinkuckee Association is providing a large portion of the wages.

“I’d like to raise that up to $30 an hour,” requested Sheriff Hassel. “We have several police officers from other departments that are willing to do the lake patrol with our guys to help fill in. We just don’t have enough people to cover every shift that’s open. The grant started the Friday before Memorial Day – if we could have it retroactive to the start of this season.”

The current wage is $22.84 an hour.

The council approved support for the amendment to the salary ordinance to accommodate the pay increase request with a retroactive date of May 25. The active season goes through the Labor Day weekend.
