Petitions Filed Against Cumulative Bridge Fund Increase
Marshall County Auditor Julie Fox received petitions in her office that oppose the raise in the Cumulative Bridge Fund.
In order to file a successful petition, the document must have at least 10 certified signatures. Those signatures must be from property taxpayers.
Commissioners, Council to Discuss Pay Raise for Highway Supervisor
The Marshall County Highway Supervisor may soon get a pay raise.
Commissioner Kevin Overmyer suggested the bump in salary for Highway Supervisor Jason Peters since he’s assumed more responsibilities that weren’t part of his duties when he began the position. Overmyer said the amount of overtime Peters has put in is extensive.
Marshall County Highway Supervisor Discusses FEMA Assessment with Commissioners
Marshall County Highway Supervisor Jason Peters updated the commissioners on
FEMA’s recent visit and their assessment of the county’s roads, bridges and culverts after suffering flood damage.
He said FEMA looked at the county’s local and minor roads to determine what kind of funding would be available if the state meets the threshold for reimbursement. All major roads would need to be addressed by different group of people and Peters said he will make some phone calls this week.

The Marshall County Council members met in a special, emergency session Monday morning to grasp the numbers associated with repairing the county’s roads, bridges and culverts after the flood event.
Marshall County Council to Meet in Emergency Session Today
The Marshall County Council members will meet in emergency session this morning to discuss the financial status of the county highway funds to support the cost of flooding repair work.
During last week’s Marshall County Commissioners meeting, Highway Supervisor Jason Peters submitted a cost estimate of damage to the county’s roads, bridges and culverts, as well as labor, equipment and rental costs. That estimate is nearly $5.395 million.
Marshall County Commissioners Hear Proposals for Services
The Marshall County Commissioners heard about two cost savings proposal Monday morning.
Bruce Breeden from Telemon Energy Corporation offered to visit all of the county buildings to do an energy savings assessment at no cost to the county. They will look at a LED lighting conversion and determine a cost savings. They have recently worked to help retrofit the Plymouth Community School Corporation.
Marshall County Commissioners Hear Part-Time Security Proposal
A security guard will always be on duty at the Marshall County Building.
Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel told the Marshall County Commissioners this week that it was brought to his attention that county employees were without a security guard when he was recently on vacation. He said it made a difference to the peace of mind of the county workers.
David’s Courage, Inc. and Marshall County Arrive at Transfer Agreement
The transfer contract between David’s Courage, Inc. and Marshall County for occupancy of the Shady Rest Home has been approved with a few modifications.
According to County Attorney Jim Clevenger, facilitators Gregg Erickson and Ted Hayden asked the commissioners to drop the requirement that the facility continue to be named Shady Rest Home. A different designation was not provided at the time of discussions.
Highway Supervisor Provides Commissioners with Several Updates
Marshall County Highway Supervisor Jason Peters updated the county commissioners on several items Monday morning.
He had the chance to submit the salt bid amount at 2,000 ton. He explained that it’s little more than in past years.

Public Hearing Held on Proposed Cumulative Bridge Fund Increase
The Marshall County Commissioners opened up a public hearing Monday morning to hear opinions on their proposal to increase property taxes $.0524 per $100 of assessed valuation to reestablish the Cumulative Bridge Fund.
The rate is not at its maximum level, but the proposed increase would gather another $660,000 next year to help in the cost to repair the county’s bridges.
