Certain Marshall County Emergency Personnel will Receive New Phones Thanks to IDHS Grant

At the Marshall County Commissioners’ first meeting in July, Commission President Kevin Overmyer shared that new cell phones will now be available to Emergency Management Agency Director Clyde Avery as well as some patrol officers with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.

He said these phones are being provided to certain members of the county’s emergency personnel thanks in part to grant funding. Continue reading

Marshall County Commissioners Approve Drainage Board Appointment

A new member was appointed to the Marshall County Drainage Board during the County Commissioners’ first meeting in July.

Marshall County Commissioners Decide Not To Proceed with Ordinance Regulating Off-Road Vehicles in County Forests

An ordinance that was created to regulate the use of off-road vehicles in county-owned forests was not adopted by Marshall County Commissioners when they met last Monday.

County Attorney Jim Clevenger was asked to create an ordinance that would help address citizen complaints about excess noise and damage to the trails caused by these types of vehicles. He presented it to commissioners at last week’s meeting. Continue reading

Marshall County Auditor Discusses IPEP Unemployment Claims Tracker Contract with County Commissioners

Marshall County Auditor Julie Fox discussed a proposed agreement with the Indiana Public Employers’ Plan with County Commissioners last week.

Fox explained that the agreement with IPEP would help manage the County’s unemployment insurance claims. She said County Attorney Jim Clevenger looked over the agreement and mentioned that he would be in support of it.

She said the document was modified to show that it would be an agreement with Marshall County only and stated that it would only require the president’s signature. She elaborated a bit about what the agreement would provide. Continue reading

Marshall County Building Inspector Informs Commissioners of Important Policy Change

Marshall County Building Inspector Chuck Dewitt altered County Commissioners of a policy change that will directly impact his department’s permitting process.

Emergency Management Agency Director Seeks Request Approval from Marshall County Commissioners

The Marshall County Commissioners considered a number of requests submitted by Emergency Management Agency Director Clyde Avery when they met Monday morning.

Director Avery told the Commissioners that the Blueberry Festival security requested to use the Emergency Operations Center from August 30th through September 3rd. He explained, “They’ve used it in the past, they’ve been provided access to the building and to that room specifically so they can use the equipment.”

Next, Avery sought permission to attend two events that have no cost associated with them. Continue reading

Marshall County Attorney Creates Ordinance Establishing an Electronic Data Fee for the Sheriff’s Department

At the request of Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel, County Attorney Jim Clevenger created an ordinance establishing a fee for electronic data. The County Commissioners looked over the ordinance when they met Monday morning.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department has ordinances and fees for other public records requests for paper copies of things such as accident reports, gun permits and background checks but there was no fee set for digital copies. Continue reading

DLGF Reaches Final Determination about Tax Increase for Cumulative Bridge Fund

The Department of Local Government Finance (DLGF) reached a final determination about the proposed tax increase that would help reestablish the Marshall County Cumulative Bridge Fund. In a document provided to the Marshall County Commissioners Monday morning, DLGF officials stated that after weighing the available testimony and evidence they found no legal basis for denying the proposed fund reestablishment.

Commissioners initially approved the increase back in March. However, after at least ten residents signed a petition objecting to it, DLGF representatives held a public hearing and looked over all relevant information to assess the apparent necessity. Continue reading
