Marshall County Council to Discuss Salary Ordinance Amendments, 2019 Budget

The Marshall County Council will continue discussing the county’s 2019 budget today. A public hearing on the budget proposal is scheduled for this morning’s meeting.

In other business, council members will consider a couple amendments to the salary ordinance. One has to do with the salary of Highway Supervisor Jason Peters. Last month, council members voted to raise his salary to $57,000 retroactive to January 1, due to the fact that he’s taken on the responsibilities that used to be handled by the highway administrator. However, the county commissioners haven’t agreed to officially make Peters the interim highway superintendent. The other salary ordinance amendment up for consideration this morning has to do with a probation officer.

In other business, Kathy Clark with the Lake Maxinkuckee Environmental Council will request levy funding, while Building and Grounds Supervisor Doug Masterson will request a personnel change. Meanwhile, Commissioner Kurt Garner is expected to discuss the potential restoration of the courthouse tower. Officials plan to apply for a $50,000 Historic Preservation Fund matching grant to help fund an engineering study.

Council members will also consider additional appropriation and transfer requests during this morning’s meeting. It starts at 9:00 in the Marshall County Building.
