Marshall County Missed Window for Refinancing Jail Bonds, Council has No Desire to Pay off Bonds until LIT is Extended

MARSHALL COUNTY — Marshall County Attorney James Clevenger and Marshall County Commissioner Kevin Overmyer updated the County Council during Monday’s meeting that the window has been missed for refinancing the jail bonds. The Council confirmed that they do not want to pay off the jail bonds until the General Assembly extends the Special Local Income Tax (LIT) at a rate of .15, .2, or .25 to ensure adequate financial support of jail operations.

Marshall County Council Tables ARP Plan to Return to Commissioners, Public Input on Roads, Health and Wellness

The Marshall County Council tabled the $7,900,000 American Rescue Plan (ARP) budget previously approved by the Marshall County Commissioners 3-0; Kevin Overmyer, Stan Klotz, and Michael Burroughs. The council wants the commissioners to review and clarify their plan before sending it back to the council for approval.

Marshall County Council on Aging Executive Director Presents Quarterly Report

Executive Director Janice Jeffirs Holiday presented the Marshall County Council on Aging’s MCCOA) quarterly report to the County Commissioners during their last meeting. She started by stating that their first quarter’s claim to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is $99,466.

On Monday, Chastity Keller, executive director of CASA of Marshall County, presented Debra Feldman as the Marshall County CASA  Volunteer of the Year. Feldman has spent over 500 hours since becoming a CASA volunteer in 2017.
