Marshall County Council Continues Working on 2019 Budget Proposal
$50,000 Broadband Readiness Planning Grant Awarded to Marshall County
Marshall County was recently awarded a Broadband Readiness Planning Grant through OCRA’s Community Development Block Grant Program.
Officials from Marshall County, as well as the towns of Bremen, Bourbon, Culver and La Paz collaborated to apply for the grant.
Marshall County was selected as one of five recipients to be a part of the pilot program that will educate and help shape how broadband can be established throughout the entire state, according to OCRA Executive Director Jodi Golden.
Indiana Governor Unveils 2019 NextLevel Connections Initiative
Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb made a stop at the INDOT Plymouth Subdistrict building in Plymouth Wednesday afternoon to reveal plans in the 2019 NextLevel Connections Initiative. Those plans include internet connectivity, a trails project that connects the entire state, road improvements on U.S. 31, U.S. 20, U.S. 30 and I-69, international flights out of the Indianapolis Airport, a fourth water port in Lawrenceberg and South Shore double rail tracking projects.
Marshall County Auditor Discusses IPEP Unemployment Claims Tracker Contract with County Commissioners
Marshall County Auditor Julie Fox discussed a proposed agreement with the Indiana Public Employers’ Plan with County Commissioners last week.
Fox explained that the agreement with IPEP would help manage the County’s unemployment insurance claims. She said County Attorney Jim Clevenger looked over the agreement and mentioned that he would be in support of it.
She said the document was modified to show that it would be an agreement with Marshall County only and stated that it would only require the president’s signature. She elaborated a bit about what the agreement would provide. Continue reading
Marshall County Commissioners Address Accidental Mowing on Pretty Lake Trail
The unintentional mowing of a man’s plants that are placed in the County’s right-of-way sparked a discussion during the Marshall County Commissioners’ meeting Monday evening.
Commissioner Mike Delp began by recognizing that the plants were mowed accidentally and explained that the mowing crews did not realize they were placed there intentionally.
Marc Eads, a resident of Pretty Lake Trail in Plymouth, went on to discuss the strategic placement of the plants. He said they are a part of what is called a “bioswale” which assists with drainage. Continue reading
Nearly 100 Marshall County Officials Attend Stellar Communities Workshop
Almost a hundred local leaders from around Marshall County gathered in Plymouth Thursday for a Stellar Communities workshop. A cooperative effort involving the county and its six municipalities is a finalist for this year’s designation.
DLGF Decision on Cumulative Bridge Fund Still Pending
The Department of Local Government Finance has not produced a decision concerning Marshall County’s increase in the Cumulative Bridge Fund. The commissioners adopted a resolution in March that increases the fund $.0524 per $100 of assessed valuation to make sure that fund is solvent in order to make necessary repairs to the county’s bridges for public safety.
No Word Yet on DLGF Decision on Cumulative Bridge Fund Increase
Officials with the Department of Local Government Finance have not yet returned a decision on a Marshall County ordinance that increases the Cumulative Bridge Fund by $.0524 per $100 of assessed valuation. County officials are attempting to avoid a serious deficit in that fund next year to ensure there is enough money to fund repairs to the county’s bridges for public safety.
