Marshall County Commissioner Expresses Concern over 911 Fund

Marshall County Commission President Kevin Overmyer discussed the fate of the 911 fund in the county’s budget with the Marshall County Council members.

“We’re not getting the 911 money that we should be to support 911 so we’re going to try and get some legislation passed next year where we get an annual increase of 10 cents every year for a few years,” commented Overmyer.

Overmyer said once an AT&T contract comes in, the 911 fund may take a hit.

An increase in fees will help the fund to support 911 in the county.

He added that the county is in a difficult position in looking at several funds in the budget.

“When you look at the highway and you look at the MVH funds we thought we were going to be kind of cash rich, but now we’re getting to be cash poor.  I think we’re going to have to look at how do we get more revenue.  Expenses keep going up, but the revenue doesn’t match it. We have a tough road in the next couple of years to make some tough decisions.”

Overmyer was expected to meet with legislators in Indianapolis on Thursday.
