The Marshall County Clerk’s Office and the Marshall County Building will get some security upgrades this year.
Marshall County Election Board Reviews Absentee Voting Turnout
The members of the Marshall County Election Board were updated on early voting Wednesday morning. As of Wednesday morning, the clerk’s office recorded 135 travel board votes, 90 mail-in ballots and 428 walk-in votes. In the May Primary Election in 2016, there were over 1,100 total votes, but it was noted that it was a Presidential Election. The members are hoping that more voters turn out at the polls on Tuesday, May 8.
Absentee Voting Continues in Marshall County
There were 52 Marshall County residents who cast absentee ballots when walk-in hours were held at three sites on Saturday. According to Marshall County Clerk Deb VanDeMark, 12 residents cast a ballot at the Clerk’s Office while 23 used the satellite site at Culver Town Hall and another 17 voted at Bremen Town Hall. Absentee voting started out slowly, but the Marshall County Election Board members learned this week that the numbers are beginning to increase.
More than 200 Absentee Ballots Already Cast in Marshall County
With Primary Election Day still over two weeks away, many voters are choosing to cast their ballots early. The Marshall County Clerk’s Office says 167 in-person absentee ballots had been cast as of Friday afternoon. Another 37 people had voted by mail.
Absentee Voting for Primary Election Starts Today
Today is the first-day voters may cast an absentee ballot for the 2018 primary election. According to the Secretary of State’s Election Division, absentee-by-mail applications for the 2018 primary election must be received by the county office by April 30th.
There are specific conditions that individuals must meet in order to be eligible to vote absentee-by-mail. These reasons include that there is a specific, sensible expectation that you will be absent from the county on Election Day, you are scheduled to work at your regular place of employment when polls are open or you will have official election duties outside of your voting precinct. Voter Machine Test Set for Today
Marshall County voters who plan on voting in this May’s Primary Election are invited to test the voting machine used in the election.
The public test of the voting machines begins at 10 a.m.
Public Testing of Voting Machines Set
The public testing of voting machines for Marshall County residents is set for Tuesday, March 20.
Testing on the machines to be used by voters in the May Primary Election will begin at 10 a.m. The machines are also used for counting ballot cards and tabulating machine votes cast for all candidates in the Primary Election.
Absentee Voting Begins April 10
Absentee voting will begin April 10 for the May Primary Election.
The Marshall County Clerk’s office is currently accepting requests for early voting ballots.
Early voting can be done at the Marshall County Clerk’s Office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning April 10, and on Saturday, April 28 and Saturday, May 5 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The final opportunity to vote absentee is Monday, May 7 from 8 a.m. to noon.
Candidate Filings Continue as Deadline Approaches
The deadline is approaching for candidates to file to run in the May primary. Candidates have until Friday at noon to file their paperwork with the county clerk’s office. The list of candidates continues to grow in Marshall County. Democrat Angie Rupchoch-Schafer has filed to run for the District 4 County Council seat, challenging incumbent Republican Judy Stone.
Several Township Officials File to Run for Reelection
Candidate filings continue in Marshall County. Several township trustees have filed to run for reelection. They include Center Township Trustee Amy Knapp, German Township Trustee Ben Baker, Green Township Trustee Marie Fishburn, North Township Trustee Chelsea Smith, Polk Township Trustee Jerry Lamb, Tippecanoe Township Trustee Matthew Pitney, Walnut Township Trustee Stephen Wilhelm, and West Township Trustee Terry Lee Borggren.
Open Seats in Marshall County for 2018 Elections
Many Marshall County positions will be up for election this year including the Judge for Superior Court 1 as well as the County Prosecutor, Clerk, Auditor, Recorder, Assessor and Sheriff. Wednesday marks the first day that a declaration of candidacy may be filed.
According to Jaley Schinbeckler with the Marshall County Clerk’s Office, elections will also be held for all township trustees and board members and the county commissioner in District 1 as well as county councils in districts 1 through 4. Absentee Voting Continues Ahead of May Primary
Marshall County continues to see good voter turnout during early primary voting. Since absentee voting for next month’s primary began on April 5, 185 voters have cast ballots in-person at the County Clerk’s Office. Marshall County Clerk’s Office Gathers First Absentee Ballots
The Marshall County Clerk’s Office welcomed two voters Tuesday as they cast absentee ballots on the first day to do so in the City of Plymouth Primary.
Mayoral candidates include incumbent Republican Mark Senter, who will face the winner of the Democratic Party contest between Rex A. Crump and Anthony P. (Tony) Gamble. Republican Jeanine M. Xaver is the lone candidate for Plymouth Clerk-Treasurer.
Seven candidates have filed for the three available Plymouth Common Council At-Large seats. They include incumbent Republican Mike Delp, Republican Christopher R. Berdahl, Democrat Gary L. Cook, Democrat Jeffery R. Houin, Republican Burke L. Richeson, Democrat Joshua Walker and Republican Bill Walters.
Incumbent Republican Duane L. Culp is seeking another term as the District 1 candidate on the Plymouth Common Council. In District 2, Incumbent Republican Don Ecker, Jr. is the lone candidate. Incumbent Republican Wayne A. Smith and Democrat Shiloh Fonseca are vying for the District 3 seat and Incumbent Republican Shawn Grobe is looking to represent District 4 for another term.
The Marshall County Election Board opted to reduce absentee voting hours to Mondays and Fridays only for this primary since fewer voters are expected. The next opportunity to vote will be Monday, April 13, when polls will be open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Absentee voting is also available on Saturday, April 25 and Saturday, May 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET.
The final opportunity to vote absentee is May 4 from 8 a.m. to noon prior to the election on Tuesday, May 5.
Last Day to Register to Vote is April 6
The last day to register to vote in the 2015 municipal primary is Monday, April 6. Municipal offices up for election in Marshall County include the mayor of Plymouth, clerk-treasurer in Argos, Bourbon, Bremen, Culver, LaPaz, and Plymouth. Voters will also elect three council members in Argos, two in Bourbon, four in Culver and three in LaPaz. All five city council seats in Plymouth are on the ballot as well as two additional at-large seats.
Those seeking a seat in the town elections in Argos, Bourbon, Bremen, Culver and LaPaz will be a part of town conventions if there are opposing party candidates. Candidates chosen in any town convention will be on the General Election ballot.
Filing Deadline for Plymouth Municipal Candidates Passes
The last day to file for the Plymouth City Municipal Election was Friday at noon in the Marshall County Clerk’s Office.
The newest candidates to file include Democrat Jeffrey R. Houin for an at-large seat on the Plymouth City Council, Democrat Shiloh Fonseca for Plymouth City Council District 3, and Republican Burke L. Richeson for an at-large seat on the Plymouth City Council.
Any candidate in the City of Plymouth election who wishes to withdraw from the ballot can do so today.
