The Plymouth Community School Corporation has shuffled some personnel around to fill vacancies.
Plymouth Community School Corporation Assistant Superintendent Dan Fuston announced recently that he will be leaving the superintendent’s position to take a job with Five Star Technology Solutions as their Director of eLearning.
State Offers New Travel App
A free mobile app that provides county travel status updates and alerts for Indiana is now available. The State of Indiana created the Indiana Travel Advisory app in light of the state’s travel status map on IN.gov generating nearly five million unique visitors between Dec. 1, 2013 and March 31, 2014.
Marshall County Solid Waste Director Resigns
The director of the Marshall County Solid Waste District has resigned.
Michael T. Good tendered his resignation effective immediately. The Marshall County Solid Waste District met Thursday and accepted his resignation.
Good was indicted by a Marshall County grand jury this week on counts of theft as a Class D felony and official misconduct as a Class D felony.
The two-count indictment alleges Good exerted unauthorized control over property of the Marshall County Solid Waste Management District totaling $9,017.12. He allegedly sold scrap in 2012, 2013 and 2014, according to a Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office press release.
Marshall County Commissioners Approve Resolution for Tax Certificate Sale
The Marshall County Commissioners will be moving forward with a tax certificate sale.
Joe Edwards from SRI, Inc. said there were about 30 properties that were not sold in the property tax sale. Those particular properties have not been sold in several years. The redemption period is a little quicker so the properties can be included in the tax rolls in 120 days.
The certificate sale would be held in March in the commissioners meeting room in the Marshall County Building. Proper advertising will be done prior to the sale.
Marshall County Jury Indicts Marshall County Solid Waste Management Director
A Marshall County grand jury has returned counts of theft as a Class D felony and official misconduct as a Class D felony against Michael T. Good.

Marshall County to Join Lawsuit over Theft of Documents
Marshall County Attorney Jim Clevenger and Marshall County Recorder Marlene Mahler discussed with the commissioners this week the theft of 2,700 documents totaling 39,000 pages out of the county’s computer system.
Clevenger noted that several other counties are facing the same issue with the same company and have been asked to join a multi-county action against the company. Representatives of LPS Real Estate Data Solutions reportedly went in and took data out of the recorder’s office without going through the proper channels to pay for the data wanted. A civil action will be filed against LPS to recover damages for the stolen data and punitive damages.
Culver Community Schools Receive School Performance Award
The Culver Community School Board learned this week that the corporation recently received the School Performance Award from the state that is just over $35,000. This money will go to effective and highly effective teachers that have been with the corporation for the 2013-2014 school year and are currently still there. Continue reading
LEPC Presents Emergency Plan to Marshall County Commissioners
The emergency plan formatted by the Local Emergency Planning Committee, or LEPC, was presented to the Marshall County Commissioners for approval Monday morning.
LEPC President Gene Gray told the commissioners that the plan is in line with the county emergency plan so it will not confuse emergency responders. There are maps and site plans within the emergency plan for 85 county facilities.
Gray posed the question as to how the county will enforce this plan.

Marshall County Community Foundation Accepting Grant Applications
The Marshall County Community Foundation is accepting applications for the first of two Community Fund grant rounds in 2015. This endowment fund award allows grants twice a year to nonprofit organizations for support in the arts, education, health and human services, recreation and the environment throughout Marshall County.
Service Planned for Culver Fire Victim
A visitation is planned Wednesday for the 24-year-old Culver woman who died in a house fire there last week. Anjelica C. Bush suffered smoke inhalation. She was the lone occupant of a home at 504 Mill Street that caught fire around 1:30 Thursday morning. Continue reading

Ancilla College Offers Winter Term Course
The first winter semester course offering at Ancilla College begins today. The four-week introduction to psychology course is offered entirely online and is available to students at any college or university. Ancilla President Dr. Ken Zirkle says the credits are fully transferable to other colleges or universities. He adds taking a course during what is traditionally an off time academically can help students retain their athletic eligibility and meet the minimum standards for financial aid offerings. Marshall County Commissioners to Meet Today
The Marshall County Commissioners will meet this morning with several business items up for discussion.
Joe Edwards with SRI, Inc. will appear to explain the process of a certificate sale. Treasurer Deb Vandemark told the commissioners previously that several properties have not sold in the county’s tax sale that have been up for sale for many years. The certificate sale would be a way to get the properties back on the tax rolls.
Culver Superintendent’s Contract on Tonight’s School Board Agenda
The Culver Community School Board will vote tonight on a new contract for Superintendent Dr. Vicki McGuire. It carries a base salary of $95,000 plus benefits, which include insurance for the superintendent and family members. Continue reading

Culver Relay for Life Kickoff Gets Under Way Tonight
Culver’s annual Relay for Life Kickoff fundraiser for the American Cancer Society gets under way this evening at 7 p.m. EST at the Steinbrenner Recreation Center at Culver Military Academy. Debbie Foersch is in charge of the fundraising.
“For us kickoff is an opportunity to energize and motivate the community on teaching them what relay is and understanding that cancer doesn’t sleep so we won’t sleep at relay. We want people to be touched by our mission moments so it’s really a year round event and not just the one night event,” said Foersch.
Foersch says 12 teams have already signed up for this spring’s Relay for Life event. She hopes 13 more will register by the end of the weekend. Between now and the April 10th Relay she’d like to see 75 teams raise $100,000 for cancer research.
Tonight’s family-oriented event will feature games, giveaways and prizes. Cancer survivors in attendance will also be recognized. Activities will conclude at 9 p.m.
