Meeting Scheduled in Marshall County to Discuss Road Funding
A representative from the Indiana Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) will be meeting with the Marshall County Council and the Marshall County Commissioners this week to discuss funding options for the highway department.
Commission President Kevin Overmyer said in a previous meeting that the state will soon cut funding for local roads and highways, and it will be left to local governments to provide funding for projects.

Culver In Talks With Firms for Affordable Housing
The Town of Culver continues to work toward the development of affordable housing.
The effort is being led by the Town’s Affordable Housing Committee, but is also reported to the Culver Redevelopment Commission. During the CRC’s meeting on Monday evening, it was learned that several construction and development companies have met with the town to consider the option.

State police representatives say they call, tell victims they owe taxes and threaten them with jail unless immediate payment is made. Marshall County Commissioners to Receive Road Update
The Marshall County Commissioners will have an update on roads when they discuss items with Highway Administrator Laurie Baker and Supervisor of County Highways Jason Peters.
The highway department crews are doing what they can to rehabilitate areas that were damaged due to the frost line. Potholes have surfaced, and edges of roads have deteriorated as winter turned to spring. It has been noted that some summer road projects will suffer due to lack of funding. The highway crews will do what they can with the funding they have to make the road as passable as possible.
Low Absentee Vote Count in City of Plymouth Primary Municipal Election
The Marshall County Clerk’s Office has counted 13 absentee ballots so far in the City of Plymouth Primary Municipal Election since April 7.
Ballots may be cast in the Marshall County Clerk’s Office on Mondays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET. Absentee voting is also available on Saturday, April 25 and Saturday, May 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET.
Culver Academies Searching For Head of Schools
Culver Academies will be starting a search for the new Head of Schools.
It was recently announced that John Buxton and his wife Pam plan to retire in June of 2016. Buxton has been with the schools for the past 17 years. Culver Academies is a boarding and college preparatory school in Marshall County.
Identity Theft is an Issue When Filing Tax Returns
Police continue to take reports of identity theft from residents attempting to file their 2014 income taxes.
An 18-year-old LaPorte man told LaPorte Police that his parents recently attempted to file their tax return with him listed as a dependent. The tax return was rejected, citing that someone else had already claimed the victim as a dependent. The victim also attempted to access his credit score and learned that a credit card, mortgage and home equity loan were fraudulently established using his identity.
Culver Tree Commission Continues Replacement Efforts
The Culver Tree Commission met on Friday morning after some of the members returned to the lake community for the summer.
The Commission has been considering their goals for 2015 and will proceed with additional work to the Town Park along Lake Maxinkuckee.

DNR Seeks Lifeguards At State Park Facilities
Those looking to qualify for a summer job, and who may want to get bronzed in the process, can now retrieve a bit of information through the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
The DNR says it’s taking applications for summer lifeguard positions. Tests are required for first-year lifeguards at State Park facilities. Applicants who have already been lifeguards at more than 10 locations around the state are exempt from taking the test.
Two Local Men Killed in Porter County Accident
Two area residents died in a two-vehicle accident in Porter County last night.
An initial investigation by Porter County deputies found that Roderick Heise, 34, of Knox was southbound on State Road 49 and drove left of center to pass other vehicles near 285 S. in Morgan Township when he struck a northbound van driven by Jade Michael Schneider, 20, of Francesville, according to report in “The Times”. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicles did not carry any passengers.
Marshall County Dems Searching for Argos Council Replacement
A council member in the Town of Argos has decided to resign his position.
Now, the Marshall County Democrats are on the lookout for a possible replacement. Dave Walker served as the Vice President of the Town Council in Argos, but according to sources with knowledge of the situation, he has decided to move out of the area at the end of the month.

Plymouth Band Students Qualify for 500 Festival Parade
High school students in Plymouth will be able to use their music skills at a statewide event in May.
According to a press release from the Plymouth Community School Corporation, 12 students will be marching in the Indiana All-Star Marching Band. The ensemble will be performing on Memorial Day weekend in Indianapolis as part of the 500 Festival Parade.
Plymouth To Celebrate Two Holidays With Clean-up
Plymouth’s Mayor is hoping to attract some volunteers to an event that recognizes two holidays.
The Mayor’s Youth Council will hold their third annual Earth Day/Arbor Day Celebration in River Park Square at the end of April. Mayor Mark Senter says the event will also act as a day to clean-up the area.
Plymouth Ice Cream Business Fined for Ordinance Violations
An ordinance violation cited by the City of Plymouth has levied fines against a local ice cream business.
Mooney’s Ice Cream erected a sign on the corner of their building, but allegedly did not receive a permit from the City of Plymouth.
