Argos Town Council Approves Pay Raise for Part-Time Police Officers
The Argos Town Council members considered allowing a pay raise for part-time police officers during their most recent meeting.
At the Town Council’s first meeting in October, Police Chief Corey Bowman proposed raising the part-time rate a few dollars in order to stay competitive with surrounding departments. Before coming to a decision, council members requested to see some of the rates that other departments pay their part-time employees.

Washington D.C. Trip Approved by Argos School Board
When the Argos School Board members met last week, they provided final approval on a field trip request that they tentatively approved in September.
Last month, school board members tentatively approved a Washington D.C. Trip under the condition that there would be enough students interested and chaperones available. Argos Town Council Votes to Amend Existing Golf Cart Ordinance to Add UTVs
Argos Town Council members reached a decision about allowing utility vehicles on roads within the town limits when they met earlier this month.
Members noted that the vehicles would be under the same regulations as golf carts. In order to operate a UTV on the town’s roadways, an individual would need a valid driver’s license and their vehicle needs to be insured. Continue reading
Go Solutions Contract Approved by Argos School Board
Argos School Board members approved the Go Solutions Contract for 2019 when they met last Monday. Superintendent Ned Speicher explained that the contract will help the school corporation secure specific funding to help pay for special education services.
Speicher explained, “Every school district is in a special education cooperative with other districts and so all the districts in the cooperative need to approve those contracts so we can get Medicaid reimbursement for services to handicapped children.” Continue reading
Argos Elementary School is Collecting Candy for ‘Operation Gratitude’
Students and staff at Argos Elementary School are collecting sweet treats to donate to ‘Operation Gratitude.’
Now through Thursday, November 8th they’ll be collecting leftover Halloween candy. Once the collection ends, school officials will provide all the candy to Operation Gratitude and it will be included care packages that will be sent to veterans, first responders and military personnel and their families. Argos School Board Adopts Policies Related to Board Transition
Argos School Board members took one final step in the process of transitioning from an appointed school board to an elected one when members met Monday night.
Superintendent Ned Speicher explained that the members passed some updated NEOLA policies that reflect the change. Calling all Plumbers, Electricians and Carpenters! Your Help is Needed with Flood Recovery Efforts
While the water may have receded months ago, recovery crews in Marshall County have been working nonstop since the flood hit the area hard, back in February.
Linda Yoder who serves as the Director of Marshall County United Way and the Long-Term Flood Relief Committee shared that right after the flooding, there were 113 homes that needed to be restored. There are now less than 30 homes where work is still needed. Continue reading
Possibility of Hosting ‘TGIF Argos’ Events Next Summer Discussed at Town Council Meeting
During last week’s Argos Town Council meeting, officials discussed the possibility of hosting summer events similar to the “Food Truck Fridays” held in Bourbon.
Library Director Jane Hall reminded the council members that the possibility of a “TGIF Argos” event has been brought up in the past and there is a committee of organizers assembled.
She explained that the plan was to do it last summer but due to a combination of health complications and personal obligations, the members were unable to get things organized in time. Continue reading
Marshall County Community Foundation Grant Accepted at Argos School Board Meeting
Argos School Board members officially accepted a donation from the Marshall County Community Foundation when they met Monday night.
The MCCF supplied a total of $96,293 to 14 different Marshall County Organizations during their fall grant round. Argos Superintendent Ned Speicher shared that the school’s theater department was one of the organizations that benefited from those funds. Continue reading

Argos Officials Finalize Plans for Tree Lighting Ceremony
Argos officials finalized details for this year’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony at last Wednesday’s town council meeting.
Library Director Jane Hall reminded council members that the Friends of the Argos Public Library group decorated the tree and hosted last year’s ceremony.
She explained that the lighting ceremony is scheduled for the week after Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 29th and that it will run from around 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Continue reading

Community Members Show Support for Rees Theater Renovation Project in Multiple Ways

More than thirty Marshall County residents turned up at the Rees Theater on Saturday to participate in a clean-up event.
Representatives report that an energized group of about 34 volunteers worked for hours, clearing out old theater seats, removing curtains, debris, insulation and carpet. By the end of the day two large dumpsters were filled and all unneeded materials were cleared from the building. Continue reading
Plymouth Police Arrest Rochester Woman on Drug Charges Sunday Night
A Rochester woman who was reportedly arrested on Sunday evening faces charges of dealing and possession of methamphetamine as well as possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.
Around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 21st, Plymouth Police were dispatched to East Jackson Street and Bailey Street in reference to a suspicious vehicle parked at the park. Continue reading
Plymouth Man Arrested for Possessing False ID and Interfering with Drug Screen
Last Wednesday, Plymouth Police received a call from Lifeplex Urgent Care about a male who was in possession of a fake ID.
Police units reportedly responded shortly before 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17th. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the man, identified as 29-year-old Jorge Oswaldo Aguilar, of Plymouth, also supposedly had a bottle of urine in his pants. Continue reading
