Argos School Board members took a moment to recognize an exceptional instructor when they met last Monday.

Argos Students Personify the Spirit of the Giving Season with Recent Charity Operations

Students at the Argos Elementary School recently completed a philanthropic effort that will benefit first responders, active service members and veterans while a group at the high school tackled a project that will assist children from countries in need.

In a social media post, a school representative mentioned that the Elementary School’s candy drive was a major success. The students and staff members there were able to collect enough candy to fill 8 boxes. Continue reading

New Lights are Going Up at the Bremen High School Football Field

Now that the season has officially wrapped up, new lighting is going in at the Bremen High School football field. Superintendent Dr. Jim White said the project is currently ongoing and it’s expected to wrap up in about 3 weeks.

The superintendent previously mentioned that the existing football lighting was installed in the 1960s and was on wooden poles while the replacements will be made of a much sturdier metal material. Continue reading

Marshall County Council Considers Funding Request from Garden Court, Inc

Proponents of a permanent supportive housing facility in Plymouth came before Marshall County Council members last Tuesday with a request for funding assistance.

Representatives of Garden Court, Inc informed county officials that this multi-family housing project will be constructed on a Jefferson Street property currently owned by Ancilla College.

The housing project is intended to provide a stable living environment for individuals in the community who currently do not have one, such as people living out of motels, in their cars or “couch surfers” who venture from place to place without a home to call their own. Continue reading

Marshall County Council Approves Per Diem Increase for Coroner’s Office Deputies, Among other Requests

Marshall County Coroner John Grolich came before County Council members with a few different requests when they met last Tuesday. Grolich was seeking an additional appropriation of $1,000 and also noted a request to transfer $1,000 from the autopsy fund to the toxicology fund.

Auditor Julie Fox informed the council that since the transfer was from two funds within the same category, it would not require any official action but the additional appropriation did. Members unanimously approved the appropriation of $1,000.

Additionally, Council President Judy Stone brought up a salary ordinance amendment that would increase the per diem pay for deputies who work in the field for the coroner’s office. Continue reading

Triton School Board Receives Presentation Over the National FFA Convention

Students in the Triton FFA provided school board members with a presentation last week about their trip to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.

According to Superintendent Jeremy Riffle, the FFA students joined 60,000 other attendees this year and they had the chance to see a few famous faces while they attended the multi-day event in October. Continue reading

Bourbon Officials Plan to Reapply for Community Crossings Grant in January

The Town of Bourbon did not receive any funds from the Community Crossings Grant during the most recent round. Clerk-Treasurer Kim Berger informed Town Council members about what their next move should be when they met Wednesday evening.

She noted that once she found out the town did not receive the grant funds she called the Town’s point of contact at the Indiana Department of Transportation. Continue reading

Bourbon Officials Sign Contract with Wessler Engineering to Assist with Planning Grant

Bourbon officials discussed an OCRA wastewater planning grant that could potentially pave the way for a construction grant further down the line during Wednesday night’s Town Council meeting.

Clerk-Treasurer Kim Berger explained that the planning grant is worth $35,000 and it is intended to help officials review the Town’s wastewater system and plan for any potential repairs or upgrades. She noted that council members signed a contract with Wessler Engineering this week and they’ll be conducting the system review. Continue reading

Part-Time Code Enforcement Officer Position & Wage Approved by Marshall County Council

Marshall County Plan Director Ty Adley discussed a part-time code enforcement officer position with County Council members Tuesday morning.

Director Adley noted that the position wouldn’t be filled until 2019. He told council members, “I’m looking to hopefully advertise by the end the month and have prospects back towards the end of December and somebody hired as soon as we can in January.” Continue reading

Bourbon Police Department to Receive Grant For Training and Test Kits

Bourbon Town Council members acknowledged a grant that Police Chief Bill Martin applied for back in October when they met Wednesday night.

Clerk-Treasurer Kim Berger noted that the department received around $1,000 and it will be utilized to send an officer to get some training as well as test kits for patrolmen to carry in their vehicles.

Chief Martin shared that the grant is through Marshall County’s Local Coordinating Council for the Governor’s Commission for a Drug-Free Indiana. Continue reading

Marshall County Council Approves Job Description and Wage for Part-Time Court Security Officer

A job description and wage for the newly created position of a part-time court security officer was presented to Marshall County Council members Tuesday morning.

Sheriff Matt Hassel explained that he recently received a job description and wage recommendation from Waggoner, Irwin and Scheele after initially submitting a suggested description in April. Continue reading

Triton Students and Staff Pitch In to Help Feed Malnourished Children

Staff and students from the Triton Community School Corporation recently pitched in with a philanthropic effort that exemplifies the giving spirit.

Last Wednesday, about twenty Jr./Sr. High students, a group of fifth and sixth graders as well as some administrators, bus drivers and teachers helped pack more than 430 boxes for the organization ‘Feed My Starving Children.’ This program provides food to malnourished children all over the world. Argos Police Department Welcomes Two New Full-Time Officers, Open Position Still Available

The Argos Police Department has two new full-time officers on the force. Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney shared that Bradley Howe and Aaron Yeargin recently filled some open full-time positions. She noted that the department is still taking applications for an additional officer now through Tuesday, November 20th.

According to information provided on the Town’s official website, academy training is recommended but it is not a requirement. The starting probationary pay for a new, non-certified, officer is $35,330 while Academy-certified officers receive $46,672 per year.

There are a few minimum qualifications that an applicant must meet to be considered for the position. Continue reading
