Culver Town Council to Further Discuss MCEDC Contract

The Culver Town Council will take a closer look at the contract they have with the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation.

Town Council President Ginny Bess Munroe said the contract hasn’t changed since 2011 with the amount to stay at $10,000 with the opportunity for the council to delegate a representative on the board.  An addendum to the contract related to the Culver Redevelopment Commission (CRC) expects deliverables where they have contributed varying amounts in the past few years.

CRC President and Town Council member Rich West said in 2019 those deliverables included a micro loan program which resulted in the CRC’s higher contribution to $17,000.  The contract was lowered to $10,000 for 2020 with a major deliverable being a planning process to implement the recruitment of a technology or knowledge-based industry in Culver and personnel to staff that company.  The expectation is that a plan will be produced in the spring with the execution of the recruitment throughout the rest of the year.

It was recommended that the town council enter into a work session to put forth more input on what type of deliverables would be included for the town.  Town Manager Jonathan Leist will gather ideas from the council members, update the contract and review the modifications for the contract during the work session prior to the council’s next regular meeting.  The contract would then be voted on during the meeting on Feb. 11.
