Work to Begin on County Community Crossing Project

Work will begin soon on a Marshall County Community Crossings grant project.

Highway Supervisor Jason Peters said paving on Beech Road could start either on Friday, Nov. 10 or Monday, Nov. 13. Inclement weather could play a factor on the start of the project and the overall completion.

Beech Road will be paved from U.S. 6 to 3B Road in Marshall County. That is just one of three projects awarded Community Crossings grant money for 2017. The other projects include North Michigan Street from Tyler to 1st Road and South Michigan Street from Dewey Street to State Road 110. E&B Paving will do the work on Beech Road and Walsh and Kelly will complete the North Michigan Street project which could be done yet this year. The start date on that project hasn’t been formally announced.

When the bids were opened for all three projects last month, the county commissioners and highway department officials found there wasn’t enough money in the grant to complete the project on South Michigan Street. Highway Supervisor Jason Peters and the county commissioners will ask the county council to help fund this project at the next county council meeting on Nov. 13. That project isn’t expected to start until spring of 2018.

Marshall County was granted just over $518,000 in Community Crossings funds.
