Riverside Intermediate Students Discuss Catapults, Vietnam War Battle Diorama with School Board

Catapults and a Vietnam War battle were the two topics that Riverside Intermediate School students discussed with the Plymouth School Board last week. Principal Kyle Coffman explained that as part of the school’s SOAR block, which stands for Securing Outstanding Academics at Riverside, students have the chance to explore topics of interest to them.

Josh Martin Appointed Plymouth High School Assistant Principal, Amid Other Administrative Changes

A Plymouth High School English teacher has been promoted to assistant principal. Josh Martin was appointed to the position by the school board Thursday, at the recommendation of Superintendent Andy Hartley. “Josh has been at Plymouth High School for quite some time now, has served in many roles: an English Department teacher, department chair for the past several years, has been a lead teacher, has also served as our head boys soccer coach,” Hartley said. “We had nearly 40 applicants for the position, and Josh rose to the top and will be a great addition to that administrative team as they continue to progress.”

Plymouth School Board Names New Intermediate School Principal, High School Athletic Director

The Plymouth School Board has officially named replacements for two longtime staff members who’ll be retiring this month. Kyle Coffman was appointed principal of Riverside Intermediate School Tuesday, at the recommendation of Superintendent Andy Hartley. “Mr. Coffman quickly rose to the top of nearly 40 applicants,” Hartley said. “In addition, knowing the work that he has been able to accomplish as a teacher and as an assistant principal in our district, I’m confident in his skill set, attention to detail, compassionate leadership, and a desire to facilitate the success of others, especially our students.”

Plymouth Students Collect Over $39,000 During Riley Dance Marathon Fundraisers

A number of Plymouth Community School students danced their way into setting a new record and exceeding their set goal during the Riley Dance Marathon fundraisers held in January.

PCSC Marketing Director Judi Lykowki shared that the PHS Dance Marathon committee coordinated with some of the elementary schools to hold super-hero days. Kids donated a dollar and then they were able to wear a cape or their favorite super hero shirt to school to show support for the charity.

On Friday, mini dance marathons were held at Lincoln Junior High School and Riverside Intermediate School. More than $13,500 was raised between the two schools. Continue reading

Riverside Lego Robotics Teams Exploring Solutions to Water Challenges

Sixth graders at Riverside Intermediate School are learning valuable science, engineering, and math skills with Lego robots. Members of the school’s Lego Robotics teams demonstrated their machines to the Plymouth School Board last week. They also discussed their recent competition at the First Lego League Qualifying Tournament in Granger.

Plymouth School Board to Continue Planning for Lincoln Junior High Project

The Plymouth School Board will hear comments from the public tonight on the lease finance process for the Lincoln Junior High School building project. The corporation plans to replace much of the school with a new building, while the original 1926 structure will be left in place and renovated for other uses. On top of that, renovations are also planned at Plymouth High School, Riverside Intermediate School, and Washington Discovery Academy.

Plymouth Schools to Host a Variety of Veterans Day Programs

This Friday, Plymouth Schools will be holding a few different programs in honor of Veterans Day.

To start off the day, members of the Plymouth High School student council will be hosting a breakfast from 7:45 a.m. until 8:45 a.m. Local veterans are encouraged to contact the school corporation ahead of time to reserve their spot.
