Celebrate Earth Day with a Wildflower Walk at River Park Square this Weekend

Nature lovers of all ages are invited to attend the Earthworks Wildflower Walk at River Park Square in Plymouth!

Adam Thada, the Director of Ecological Relationships at the Center at Donaldson will be leading the walk along the Yellow River on Sunday from 2:30 p.m. until around 3 p.m.

According to event organizers, aside from identifying riverside plant species and the flowers that are beginning to bloom, Thada will also point out some effects that recent floods left behind and discuss their impact on the local ecology. Continue reading →

$10,000 Donation From Gene Haas Foundation Among Consent Items Approved by Plymouth School Board

The Plymouth School Board considered accepting donations made to Jefferson Elementary School as well as Plymouth High School when members met Tuesday night.

According to the donation reports provided in the interactive agenda through BoardDocs, from March 13th through the 20th, a total of $650 dollars was donated to Jefferson Elementary School from various individuals.

Additionally, a $10,000 donation was submitted to the high school on behalf of the Gene Haas Foundation in April. Continue reading →

Triton Students “Blanket the Community In Kindness” With Latest Project

Triton students are working on a project to “blanket the community in kindness” and they need your help!

According to Superintendent Jeremy Riffle, students in grades 7 through 12 spent time last week creating 30 fleece tie-blankets with materials donated from Delta Theta Tau of Plymouth. Those blankets will be donated to St. Joseph Regional Hospital in Plymouth where one will be gifted to families with a newborn baby. For standard baby blanket size, and other such information, people can check it out here!

Plymouth City Council Considers Establishing Economic Revitalization Area at Oasis Lifestyle Property

A resolution to declare certain real-estate to be within an Economic Revitalization Area (ERA) was considered by Plymouth City Council members last week.

Plymouth Board of Works Approves Bowen Printing Property Sale

A proposal requesting the sale of a city-owned building that sustained major flood damage was brought to the attention of Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members when they met last Monday.

Street Superintendent Discusses Semis Causing Yard Damage at Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety Meeting

Plymouth Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt alerted Board of Public Works and Safety Members about some problems with out-of-town semis utilizing residential streets and causing damage to yards.

During Monday night’s BOW meeting, Marquardt said he’s received similar complaints in the past but they’ve been coming in more frequently lately.

“This spring has been crazy on semis coming down Beerenbrook, trying to turn onto Harrison to go toward Flora and they’re just tearing yards up,” Marquardt explained, “and before they’ve had some little problems, but in the past week, it’s happened three times.” Continue reading →

State Fire Marshal’s Office Assists Marshall County Sheriff’s Department With Suspicious Structure Fire Investigation

Shortly before 3:30 a.m. on Monday, March 12th, the Marshall County Dispatch Center received a call of a structure fire on 6th Road.

The 911 caller indicated that they were driving by when they observed a residence in the 11800 Block of 6th Road on fire. United Way of Marshall County Holds T-Shirt Fundraiser for Flood Victims

As individuals begin assessing the severity of damage in the area, many Marshall County residents are seeking ways to assist those who were impacted the most by the flooding in February.

The United Way of Marshall County wasted no time coordinating with local businesses to organize a t-shirt fundraiser to assist those in need. Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Searches for Theft Suspect

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a purse being stolen from a vehicle in the 9600 block of Union Road in Plymouth, on Thursday at approximately 5:27 a.m.

According to a press release, officers arrived on scene and reviewed the parking lot security cameras. While reviewing the footage, they reportedly learned that earlier that same morning shortly before 5 a.m., a tall, slim subject walked up to the victims red, 2014 Ford Taurus, made entry and removed a purse. Over $4,000 Collected for Plymouth Band Boosters at “Driven to Give” Fundraiser

Last year, more than $4,000 was raised for the Plymouth Band Boosters through a “Driven to Give” fundraising event sponsored by Oliver Ford Lincoln in Plymouth.

South Bend Man Faces Multiple Charges After Reportedly Stealing Ring and Fleeing From Police

Around 9:50 a.m. on Tuesday, January 16th, a diamond ring (have a peek at this web-site to see the best designs) valued at $4,300 was reportedly stolen from Kings Jewelry at 202 N Michigan St in Plymouth.

The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Daniel Smith, of South Bend, allegedly ran out the door as Plymouth Police Officer John Weir was approaching the building. According to the officer’s narrative, a struggle ensued and Smith broke free, then ran to a car behind Treats. Continue reading →

Open Seats in Marshall County for 2018 Elections

Many Marshall County positions will be up for election this year including the Judge for Superior Court 1 as well as the County Prosecutor, Clerk, Auditor, Recorder, Assessor and Sheriff. Wednesday marks the first day that a declaration of candidacy may be filed.

According to Jaley Schinbeckler with the Marshall County Clerk’s Office, elections will also be held for all township trustees and board members and the county commissioner in District 1 as well as county councils in districts 1 through 4. Marshall County Humane Society is Making Sure Local Pets are Safe this Winter Season

Marshall County has recently been dealing with extremely windy and snowy weather conditions. Around this time of year, pet owners are reminded to bring pets indoors or provide adequate outside shelter in order to keep animals safe this winter season.

Marshall County Humane Society Executive Director Nancy Cox said she and members of her team spend every morning, responding to calls of animals left outdoors without adequate food, water or shelter.

She stated, “People just need to use their common sense. If you’re cold, they’re cold. Like right now, I would feel that being out in this weather without proper shelter is cruelty and neglect.” Continue reading →

National Weather Service Issues Urgent Winter Weather Advisory for Marshall County

The National Weather Service has issued an urgent winter weather advisory for Marshall County, including the cities of Plymouth, Bremen and Culver. The advisory will be in effect on Thursday, January 4 from 1 a.m. until 7 p.m. ET.

Lake effect snow will be impacting the area so residents should prepare for reduced visibility at times and difficult travel conditions during morning and evening commutes. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 7 inches, with localized amounts of up to 10 inches are expected. Continue reading →

Plymouth Clerk-Treasurer Permitted to Carry out Year-End Financial Obligations

Plymouth Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver sought permission to carry out year-end financial obligations during the city council meeting Wednesday night.

Plymouth City Council Members Approve all Appointments as Presented

Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter and City Council members unanimously approved all appointments as presented during Wednesday night’s city council meeting. The council appointed Billy Ellinger and Mike Miley to the Redevelopment Commission. Each of them will serve a 1-year term, ending December 31st 2018.

The Mayor’s report included appointing Ken Houin and Joe Mersch to the Aviation Commissioners, Robert Listenberger to the Park and Recreation Board and Art Jacobs to the Board of Zoning Appeals. Each of those members will serve 4-year terms, ending December 31st 2021. Continue reading →

Culver Community School Board Members Approve Field Trip Requests

The Culver Community School Board members approved a few different field trip requests when they met earlier this week. Superintendent Karen Shuman stated that one of the requested field trips will be funded by the Parent Teacher Organization.

Shuman said, “Our PTO provides behavior incentive trips to multiple students throughout the school year and one that’s coming up at the end of January is a trip to Plymouth for our 6th graders to go bowling as a reward for them doing what they’re supposed to do in school.” Continue reading →

Bus-Load of Donations Collected at Plymouth Bus Drivers’ Food Drive

When Bus Drivers for Plymouth Community Schools held their first-ever “Stuff-a-Bus” Food Drive last Saturday, it garnered great results.

At the end of the three hour food drive, the bus stationed in the parking lot of Wal-Mart had every seat filled with non-perishable goods. Additionally, $200 in cash was donated as well. All the donations were split in half and then delivered to the Bread of Life Food Pantry and the Marshall County Neighborhood Center.

Assistant Director of Transportation Brandon Berger said that Bus Driver Mark Harder proposed the unique food drive idea and served as one of the main organizers. Berger stated that due to this year’s success, they hope to make the Stuff-a-Bus non-perishable food drive an annual event.
