Plymouth City Council Holds Hearing Over Waiver of Non-Compliance

A hearing was held over a waiver of non-compliance form submitted by DAC Enterprise during Monday night’s Plymouth City Council meeting.

As previously, reported DAC Enterprise submitted compliance documents to county officials past the deadline. In order for the company’s tax abatement to be processed for this year, a waiver of non-compliance form had to be approved by the city council. Continue reading

Bids for West Lake Avenue Water Main Extension Project Considered at Plymouth BOW Meeting

Project bids for extension work needed on a West Lake Avenue water main were considered during the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety meeting on Monday. Plymouth Utility Superintendent Donnie Davidson mentioned that the original engineer’s estimate for the project was about $187,450.

He also explained what the project will entail, “It’s an 8-inch water main that will go from where the Montgomery Apartments are, across from the hospital, and it will go around the corner and it will serve the Autumn Trace Assisted Living Facility and will dead-end at their west driveway.” Continue reading

Plymouth City Council Considers Commercial Revitalization Rebate Program Grant Application

An outdated doorway that could very possibly be violating modern safety requirements is looking like it will be replaced, following a decision made by Plymouth City Council members Monday night.

Members considered a resolution to approve a commercial revitalization rebate program grant application submitted by Marshall Clevenger.

Plymouth City Council and Board of Public Works and Safety to Meet Tonight

A public hearing will be held over a waiver of non-compliance for tax abatement permitted to DAC Enterprises Inc. during tonight’s Plymouth City Council meeting at 6:30 p.m.

An update from the fee schedule subcommittee will be presented and reports on previous business will be entered by Mayor Mark Senter and City Attorney Sean Surrisi. Marshall County Commissioners to Meet Today

The Marshall County Commissioners will meet today.

Plymouth City Attorney Sean Surrisi will appear before the commissioners alongside Marshall County Plan Director Ralph Booker to discuss the intergovernmental agreement for planning services. As Surrisi explained to the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety last week, it was recommended that the contract be approved every three months. While the term from January to March was approved, the contract that covers a period from April to June was overlooked. Plymouth Board of Works Approves Bowen Printing Property Sale

A proposal requesting the sale of a city-owned building that sustained major flood damage was brought to the attention of Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members when they met last Monday.

City Attorney Sean Surrisi explained that a structure at 200 South Michigan is city-owned but has been leased to the company Bowen Printing for many years. Continue reading

Plymouth City Council Adopts Ordinance to Amend Department of Aviation Fee Schedule

While presenting Plymouth City Council with an ordinance to amend the fee schedule for the Department of Aviation, City Attorney Sean Surrisi recommended that members consider suspending the rules and adopting the ordinance on all three readings.

When members met last Monday, Surrisi explained that the Aviation Board recently approved a few changes to the fee schedule that had to come before the city council before they could be officially implemented. A $10 increase to hangar rent was proposed, shifting the rent from $85 to $95. Continue reading

Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety and City Council to Meet Tonight

The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members will open bids for 2018 fuel and street supplies when they meet tonight at 6 p.m. ET. The City Engineer is scheduled to discuss 2017 Community Crossing Matching Grant Project contracts. Reports will be presented from various department heads, the City Attorney and the Secretary and Finance Officer. Mayor Mark Senter will also provide board members with a report.

Additional business includes a discussion over traffic on Plum Street and accepting November 2017 reports from the Water and Wastewater departments.

At 6:30 p.m., or immediately following the first meeting, Plymouth City Council members will convene. Members will first address any unfinished business including any tabled ordinances, resolutions or other items. Continue reading

Marshall County Council, Plymouth BOW Discuss Planning Director, Contracts

The issue of a part-time code enforcement officer was discussed during Monday morning’s Marshall County Council meeting.

Planning Commission President Stan Klotz noted that there are some issues concerning code enforcement in the county. He said Planning Director Ralph Booker is in an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Plymouth in addition to his full-time duties with the county. He believes that because of the split focus, code enforcement has been lacking in the county.

City of Plymouth Looking to Increase Water, Sewer Rates

The Plymouth City Council heard a proposal from Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver, and Eric Walsh from Umbaugh and Associates concerning an increase in water and wastewater rates.

Plymouth City Attorney Sean Surrisi told MAX 98.3 FM News that with Bay Valley Foods and Del Monte closing at the end of year, the city council learned that water and wastewater treatment revenue losses are imminent. Surrisi said a proposal to increase water and wastewater rates to help bridge the gap was brought before the council in a specially-called meeting Monday night. Continue reading

Plymouth BOW Ratifies Bid

Plymouth Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt asked the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members Monday night to ratify a bid presented to them at the prior meeting for street and sidewalk work.

Plymouth City Attorney Sean Surrisi opened bids for the projects during the Oct. 11 meeting. Following the meeting Chris Marshall with the city engineer’s office reviewed them and the lowest bid provided by Walsh and Kelly was found to be within the specifications requested. Continue reading

Plymouth, County Officials Meet with Indiana Economic Development Corporation

Officials are actively seeking industries to fill the void of outgoing companies in the Plymouth area.

Marshall County and Plymouth City officials recently met with Indiana Economic Secretary of Commerce (IEDC) Jim Schellinger, two of his top Cabinet people and the Director of the IEDC Elaine Bedel to network and make the area a priority for economic development.

Renovations Underway at Plymouth City Building

Michiana Contracting crews continue to work on demolishing the inside of the Plymouth City Building to make way for improvements inside the structure.

City Attorney Sean Surrisi previously explained that renovations will be made to the clerk-treasurer’s office to improve customer relations and staff productivity. The city purchased the adjacent chamber of commerce building and crews will remodel the second floor to accommodate an expansion of room for the city council chambers and conference space. In the same project, the mayor’s office and his assistant’s office will be moved upstairs in the city building. An elevator and staircase will be added. Continue reading

Plymouth City Council Acts on Ordinance to Vacate Allen Street

An ordinance to vacate Allen Street came before the Plymouth City Council on second and third reading when they met Monday evening. City Attorney Sean Surrisi told council members that some changes were made to the ordinance since the first reading.

Surrisi said one revision was cleaning up a street referenced from the last vacation they did that was used as a starting point for this ordinance. He said the memorandum of understanding that will be signed by all involved parties was also revised.

The request to vacate Allen Street first arose during a city council meeting in October of last year. According to meeting minutes, owners of Milten Properties LLC, Dr. Tod Stillson and James Stone came before the council, requesting that Allen Street, which runs from Jefferson Street behind Dr. Stillson’s current office, be vacated and have ownership passed over to them since they were putting their own money into maintenance.
