Plymouth City Council Considers Commercial Revitalization Rebate Program Grant Application

An outdated doorway that could very possibly be violating modern safety requirements is looking like it will be replaced, following a decision made by Plymouth City Council members Monday night.

Members considered a resolution to approve a commercial revitalization rebate program grant application submitted by Marshall Clevenger.

Clevenger explained that he is submitting an application because certain renovations are needed on the building his company occupies.

He stated, “Basically, we’re just doing a new entryway. We have business square footage upstairs, and there’s only one entrance to it, it’s from the main street and it’s a pretty old rickety door so we’d like to replace it with a modern door that would meeting building codes.”

Clevenger noted that the building is shared with other businesses who will also be utilizing the doorway.

City Attorney Sean Surrisi provided council members with the financial aspect of the proposal. He reminded members that for this process, two quotes have to be provided and confirmed that both quotes were received.

Surrisi noted, “The lower quote was for $2,410.10 and then it’s eligible for up to 20 percent rebate on the eligible cost and that came out to $482.02”

Councilwoman Shiloh Milner abstained from the vote, stating that she owns a neighboring business that will be splitting the cost of the renovation work. However, the motion to adopt the resolution received approval from the remaining council members and was passed.
