A fundraising gala is set for Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth where a silent auction will occur after a sit-down dinner. All proceeds will benefit the John Glenn Education Foundation. That money will be awarded in the form of grants to help fund enhanced training, teaching techniques or new styles of learning. The Teacher Grants Committee reviews all grant applications and the grants will be awarded as funds allow. The idea is to bridge the gap between need and funding.

Nine grant applications were recently approved to receive funds from the John Glenn Education Foundation.
Superintendent Richard Reese told the John Glenn School Board members this week that $7,500 to $8,000 worth of grants were awarded to teachers who applied for project funding. He added that the names of teachers who applied for the grants will be released at the next school board meeting in November along with the specific projects and grant amounts.
The recent sale of property donated to the John Glenn Education Foundation and the sale of items within the estate equal a great start to assisting teachers and students with grants within the John Glenn School Corporation.
The Hiler family donated property at 123 Shamrock Street to the school corporation and the corporation followed procedures to donate it to the John Glenn Education Foundation with the understanding that proceeds of the sale of the home would benefit the foundation.
The items inside the home recently donated to the John Glenn Education Foundation will be sold as a fundraiser for the foundation.
Superintendent Richard Reese reminded the John Glenn School Board Tuesday night that the sale is planned for Saturday, April 8 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 123 Shamrock Street in Walkerton.
The John Glenn School Board members opened their meeting to the public to gather comments on the donation of property at 123 Shamrock Street by the Hiler family to the John Glenn Education Foundation.
The family initially donated the property to the corporation at the end of 2015. Superintendent Richard Reese explained this was before the John Glenn Education Foundation was officially organized.
“The Hilers were comfortable with giving it to the school corporation with the knowledge that once the foundation became functional that we would exercise whatever process it takes to get this to the foundation,” said Reese.
The John Glenn School Board will entertain public comment tonight on a property donation by the Hiler family.
The corporation received the donation of the property at 123 Shamrock Street at the end of 2015. The school board plans to donate it to the newly formed John Glenn Education Foundation in an action that is expected to take place after the public hearing. The property will then be sold with the proceeds to benefit the foundation.

Teachers can apply for foundation grants for their out-of-the-box ideas to enhance the learning experience for students. The property at 125 Shamrock Street was donated to the corporation at the end of 2015. The school board accepted the property then on behalf of the corporation. The property will be donated to the newly formed John Glenn Educational Foundation with the intention that the proceeds from the property sale will benefit the foundation.
