Reese Family Makes Generous Donation to John Glenn School Corporation

A long-time dream of the late Richard “Dick” Reese will soon become a reality at the John Glenn School Corporation.

Reese passed away in May of this year, but his legacy lives on at the corporation where he was a former student, educator, administrator, and corporation superintendent. He is also remembered as being a giant supporter of the students and of the John Glenn community.

His wife, Cathy Reese, was at the John Glenn School Board meeting Tuesday night where she spoke of her late husband’s passion for playing baseball at John Glenn and later supporting his children, grandchildren and students in the sport, even in retirement.

In her heartfelt comments to the board, she mentioned that it was always a goal of Dick’s to put up lights at the baseball field to hold night games and tournaments in order to provide more opportunities to children in the sport.  With the generous support of the community in giving to the John Glenn Education Foundation and to the John Glenn Athletic Department in supporting Dick’s memory, and to honor his wishes and to continue his legacy, Cathy, on behalf of the entire Reese family, made a check presentation to the school board in the amount of $50,000 toward the purchase of lights for the baseball field.

“We will also be giving subsequent donations of $50,000 in 2023 and 2024 for a total of $150,000 for the baseball lights,” said Cathy Reese. “Thank you so much for your love and support of this project and making Dick’s dream come true.  If you build it, they will come!”

Superintendent Christopher Winchell went on to say that the lighting project will be part of the plans moving forward in a larger scope of upcoming facility updates in the next few years, thanks to the Reese family.

Several of the board members offered comments of thanks to the Reese family in their generosity and shared their memories of Dick’s legacy at the John Glenn School Corporation and the community he served.

The school board formally accepted the donation by the Reese family with a unanimous vote.
