Town of Bourbon to Work with Habitat for Humanity to Erect Housing Development Where a Blighted Structure Once Stood

Habitat for Humanity was given the “go-ahead” from Bourbon Town council members this week to apply for a community grant that would spur housing development in the area.

Bourbon Town Council President Les McFarland explained that the organization is looking to assist the Town of Argos, as well as Bourbon with the grant. Their plan is to build housing on pieces of property that the towns have acquired through the removal of blighted and abandoned structures. Continue reading

Bourbon Town Council Approves Proposal for Development Project on Center Street

Bourbon Town Council members received a project proposal from architect Brent Martin and Habitat for Humanity Representatives Dean Byers and David Dinius when they met on Tuesday.

Draft minutes indicate that the men spoke with the council members about Project H.O.M.E, which is an acronym where each letter stands for Housing, Opportunities, Medical and Education. They said they’ve been looking into that organization, as well as an Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority(IHCDA) grant to potentially build some homes on a Center Street property owned by the town. Habitat for Humanity House to be Built in Bremen

The Bremen Town Council members learned last week that volunteers with the Habitat for Humanity organization will be building a house with the occupant beginning in the spring of 2018.

According to Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy, officials with the organization bought land at 340 W. Water Street by the street department. They will be working with a family to help build the home.
