Culver Winterfest Event Continues Today

Culver WinterFest

The Town of Culver’s Winterfest in Culver continues today in the Culver Town Park.

Enjoy sledding, igloos and fun in the snow all day today with a survivor car giveaway, additional outdoor activities for the kids, the Cupid’s Crawl shopping event at 3 p.m., the ice sculpture fights from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and a light up the park event from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Large Culver Sign to be Replaced

The large-scale Culver sign at the Culver Town Park will be replaced by the time WinterFest begins on Friday, Feb. 9.

Park Superintendent Anna Campbell told the Culver Town Council members this week that the sign spelling out C-U-L-V-E-R will go in the same place where the plywood sign is now. A mock-up placard that describes the history of the name of the Lake Maxinkuckee town will be included next to the sign until a more concrete structure an be constructed.

Fundraiser Created to Keep Culver Sign

The temporary giant Culver sign located on the pedestrian bridge in the Culver Town Park can stay there on a permanent basis with the community’s help.

The Town of Culver began a “Creating Stellar Places” fundraiser where donors can win prizes for donating any denomination to retain the Culver sign . For example, the first 15 donors will receive a “Stellar Town Year Round” yard sign. Other donors could receive a Culver t-shirt, and a chance to be fire chief or police chief for a day in Culver.

Culver Town Officials to Strictly Enforce Smoking Ban at Culver Beach

The Culver Town Council members addressed the issue of smoking at the Culver Town Park and beach when they met Tuesday night.

Park Superintendent Anna Campbell said the ban is difficult to enforce. She does mention to violators that smoking is prohibited, but the authority is not always met with compliance. She noted that there are several posted signs that warn residents that smoking is prohibited at the Culver Town Park and beach.  A call will be made to police officers if residents are not complying with the ordinance or if there are threatening circumstances.

Culver Residents Urged to Donate Plastic Caps for Town Project

Supporters of the Culver Visitor’s Center plus students of the Culver Community School Corporation and the local daycare facilities are collecting plastic caps in order to construct plastic benches to be placed along a proposed bike trail around Lake Maxinkuckee. The benches will also be installed in the Culver Town Park.

Any recyclable bottle cap will be accepted. Bottle caps off of two-liter bottles, plastic pop bottles, milk jugs, medicine bottles, detergent containers, and hairspray bottles will be accepted. Flip-top caps, spray paint caps, plain prescription bottles and plastic lids smaller than eight inches may also be donated.
