The Bremen School Board accepted a generous donation to the band program when they met last Monday. Superintendent Dr. Jim White explained that a $3,000 donation was provided from the Bremen Band Boosters.

Bremen School Board members approved a transfer of inactive funds when they met Monday night.

Light Replacement Project at Bremen High School Football Field Nears Completion
The light replacement project at the Bremen High School football field is well underway and nearing completion, according to Superintendent Dr. Jim White.

Fire at Bremen Public Schools Extinguished Tuesday Morning
The Bremen Volunteer Fire Department responded to a small fire that broke out at the Bremen School Corporation on Tuesday morning. Superintendent Dr. Jim White said that some towels were being dried and the dryer malfunctioned causing a fire to break out.
The superintendent said the fire alarm was first sounded around 9:19 a.m. and students and staff were sent outside. Continue reading
Bremen School Board Approves Classified Salaries
Bremen School Board members approved salary recommendations for classified staff when they met last Monday. Superintendent Dr. Jim White said the raise recommendations differed depending on the particular positions.
White said, “They varied just because we kind of did it by the hour and different classes but it was roughly three percent.” Continue reading
Changes to Compensation and Insurance Included in Bremen’s Ratified Teachers’ Contract
Bremen School Board members ratified the teachers’ contract for next year when they met Monday night. Superintendent Dr. Jim White shared that there were some significant changes to compensation approved in the new contract.
Dr. White explained, “This year we decided to utilize a new method of compensation that was put out by the state called closing the gap and the idea is to help close the difference between the highest paid teacher and the lowest paid teacher and in doing so we were able to move our starting salary from $34,000 to $36,000.” Continue reading
Project Updates Delivered at Bremen School Board Meeting
A few different project updates were delivered at this week’s Bremen School Board meeting.
Back in July, school officials approved a $132,000 quote from McGuff Roofers for repairs to the roof at the elementary/middle school.
At Monday night’s meeting, Superintendent Dr. Jim White shared that contractors will do their best to complete certain sections before it gets too cold but the project will have to be finished up in the spring time. Continue reading
Bremen Public Schools Wellness Plan is Aimed at Promoting Healthy Behaviors
Bremen Public School officials discussed the corporation’s wellness plan during Monday night’s school board meeting. Superintendent Dr. Jim White said that reviewing this plan is an annual requirement.
In the plan, it is mentioned that the Bremen Public School Corporation is committed to providing an environment that promotes and protects children’s health, well-being and ability to learn by supporting healthy eating and physical activity.

Bremen High School Officials Discuss Graduation Pathways with School Board
This year’s eighth-grade students will have a whole new set of rules to keep in mind when it comes to obtaining a diploma. Bremen School Board members learned more about these changes when they met this week.
Superintendent Dr. Jim White said that officials from Bremen High School presented information to board members on Monday.
He stated, “The guidance counselors and the principals informed the board of the new graduation requirements in detail, talking about the graduation pathways and what it’s going take to help kids matriculate through and successfully gain a diploma in 2023. Continue reading

The Bremen School Board authorized an appointment for the Bremen Public Library Board when members met on Monday.

Bremen Superintendent Addresses Handheld Metal Detectors
Though administrative staff members at Bremen Public Schools were trained to use the corporation’s new handheld metal detectors by the county sheriff, school officials are waiting for a more solid set of rules to come through before they start utilizing them.

“Community Champion” for Bremen Entrepreneurship Program Provides Generous Donation
Budding businesses are bound to benefit from a generous donation provided to the Bremen Public School Entrepreneurship Program.
This is an opportunity that’s offered at the elementary, middle and high school. Superintendent Dr. Jim White previously shared that the goal behind the program is to plant the seeds of entrepreneurship into the minds of students early on.
Recently, the school board approved a $2,500 donation from Rick Miller, of Miller Insurance to assist with associated costs at the high school level. Continue reading
