Bremen School Board Passes New Communication Policy

When the Bremen School Board met last Monday, members held the second reading over a policy detailing specific guidelines for board member and staff communication.

Superintendent Dr. Jim White said the policy was developed in order for there to be a delineated procedure to follow when board members and staff talk to each other. Local Food Pantry to Benefit from Bremen Public Schools Allowing the Community to Utilize Facilities

Some facilities at Bremen Public Schools could potentially see some community use in 2018, according to Superintendent Dr. Jim White.

The superintendent shared that the possibility of opening the schools up to residents for recreational use has been an ongoing matter of discussion with school board members for the past couple of months. More than $2,000 Raised by Bremen Public Schools During Test Drive Fundraiser

Back in October, Bremen Schools participated in a ‘Drive 4 Ur School’ fundraising event sponsored by Auto Park Ford.

More than 100 citizens came out to test drive some of the new vehicles and for every test-drive $20 was donated to the school. The fundraiser resulted in $2,080 being collected.

Superintendent Dr. Jim White explained that the money will be going toward the Publication Club which is responsible for putting together and dispensing yearbooks.

Superintendent White said that in the past, the club ran into the issue of ordering a specific amount of books and some of those ended up not being purchased by students. That resulted in the club taking on a little bit of debt. Dr. White said this donation will allow the club to get “back in the black” and still have plenty of funds left over for future uses.

Bremen School Board Addresses Substitute Teaching Requirements

When the Bremen School Board met Monday, members agreed to change the language in the school corporation’s substitute teacher applications to reflect current standards.

Bremen Superintendent Dr. Jim White explained that some of their documentation reflected an old state policy that required individuals to have at least 60 hours of college credit in order to become a substitute teacher. However, policies have changed and now a high school graduate can apply and receive a substitute teaching license through the state. Continue reading

Hundreds of Heart Screenings Provided to Local Students through Play for Jake Foundation

This week, more than 300 Bremen students had screenings to check for pediatric heart conditions through the efforts of the Play for Jake Foundation.

Superintendent Dr. Jim White said that the organization was established in memory of Jake West, a La Porte student who died from an undetected heart condition while at football practice a few years ago. Continue reading

Bremen School Board Approves Teachers’ Contract

The Bremen School Board held a special session on Monday to approve their master teacher contract prior the November 15th deadline set by the Indiana Education Employment Relation Board.

Superintendent Dr. Jim White stated that the salary of a beginning teacher with no prior experience is set at $34,000 and an experienced teacher can make up to $70,000 depending on certain factors. Continue reading

Drive to Benefit Bremen Schools this Saturday

Tomorrow members of Marshall County not only have a chance to test-drive a new set of wheels for free, but they can also help assist a school corporation within the community simultaneously.

At Auto Park Ford in Bremen from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. anyone over the age of 18 with a valid driver’s license can test drive one of the vehicles and $20 will be donated to the Bremen School Corporation for each vehicle driven.

The test drives are limited to one per household. When Triton Schools did this same program back in August they, were able to raise approximately $5,000 for various school expenses and student activities.
