Culver Town Council Holds Rezoning Public Hearings
The Culver Town Council members conducted two public hearings to consider rezoning requests for two properties.
If approved, the BP Good Oil gas station on 203 and 213 Main Street will undergo a renovation project. According to Developer Kevin Berger, the plan is to demolish the house at 213 N. Main Street and extend the convenience store into that area. The current building may be partially demolished in the process to make way for an improved store front. The store front will face southeast as opposed to the current eastern facing.
Marshall County Still Seeks County Engineer
Marshall County officials are still looking to hire a county engineer.
Commissioner Kurt Garner asked the county council members Monday morning to reconsider the salary range offered for the county engineer’s position.
Plymouth City Council Considers REES Theater Project Addition
The Plymouth City Council members considered a resolution Monday night to add the REES Theater project to the list of Plymouth Redevelopment Commission projects.
By adding the theater to the redevelopment commission’s list, a donation request of $575,000 over the course of two to four years to be funded out of TIF #1 could be financially researched by Umbaugh and Associates. The funding request would need to be approved by the redevelopment commission.
Insurance Payment Received for Flood Damage at Bremen Wastewater Plant
The Town of Bremen received insurance money for equipment damaged in the recent flood event.
According to Bremen Town Attorney Anthony Wagner, the furnace and cooling units were damaged at the wastewater treatment facility including other factors that help run the buildings. Wagner said the insurance coverage was able to cover the replacement costs without much extra needed to fund necessary repairs. He mentioned that officials are reconsidering the placement of some of the equipment to avoid damage if a flood event occurs again.
Culver Town Council Considers Annexation, Rezoning of Proposed PUD Project
An hour-and-a-half of Tuesday’s Culver Town Council meeting was centered around the annexation and rezoning of 17664 State Road 17 and 19456 State Road 10. The annexation simply places the five contiguous parcels totaling 71 acres into the town’s limits. Utilities would be available for connection at the expense of the developer. After hearing questions concerning connectivity of utilities during a public hearing on annexation, the council unanimously voted in favor of the second reading of the ordinance allowing the process to continue. A resolution was also unanimously approved to accept the fiscal plan as part of the process.
Argos Officials and Residents Focused on Community and Economic Development
The Town of Argos is geared toward growth, and officials are currently taking steps to show it.
Aside from working with the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation to construct a manufacturing center at the Dewey Street industrial park, town officials are also working in conjunction with the Argos Community Development Corporation on a potential housing development at the Colonial Estates property. Triton School Corporation Expected to Save About $20,000 Annually With New Copier Agreement
The Triton School Corporation will be saving approximately $20,000 a year following a decision made school board members during their meeting Monday night.
Superintendent Jeremy Riffle said that members considered a 5-year copy machine lease and maintenance agreement with Adams Remco. He added that the lease agreement indicated the school would receive 7 Toshiba copiers for a total cost of $16,448.88 annually. Continue reading
Volunteer Case Managers Needed
The Marshall County Long Term Recovery Operation is in search of volunteer case managers.
The case managers will partner with those affected by the flood in Marshall County and set goals and plans to achieve those goals for recovery. The process involves outreach, screening and intake for services, assessment of disaster recovery needs, recovery planning, action and advocacy, monitoring recovery process, and closure.
Marshall County Unemployment Up from December, Down from Last Year
Marshall County’s unemployment rate has started to head back up from its low point in December, but it’s still lower than the same period last year. Marshall County saw 3.3-percent unemployment in January, according to the latest report from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, down from four percent the year before. Continue reading
Two Hospitalized, Following Tuesday Morning Crash
Road conditions are being blamed for a crash that sent two Plymouth residents to hospitals Tuesday morning. Marshall County Police say it happened shortly before 10:00 on Lincoln Highway east of Pioneer Drive.
Marshall County Council Support Tax Increase in Bridge Fund
The Marshall County Council members are in support of an increase to the Cumulative Bridge Fund.
The proposed increase is for $.0524 cents per $100 assessed valuation. The average taxpayer would see an increase of $26.20. County officials are anticipating a deficit in that fund in 2019 which causes concern about funds to rebuild bridges for public safety.
Building Permit Fees Waived for Those Affected by Flooding
Those needing to rebuild after the flooding event in Marshall County will not need to pay permit fees to do so.
The Marshall County Commissioners unanimously approved a request from Marshall County Plan Director Ralph Booker and Building Commissioner Chuck DeWitt to waive permit fees for those affected by flood waters. DeWitt asks that anyone needing to rebuild must report that activity to his office.
Plymouth City Council Considers Two Requests for Economic Revitalization Area
The Plymouth City Council members took action Monday night to consider two resolutions designating certain real estate within the city to be within an Economic Revitalization Area for purposes of property tax abatement.
Argos Town Council Members Discuss Fire Department Billing Possibilities
The possibility of charging for some additional fire department calls was briefly discussed during the Argos Town Council meeting last Wednesday.
Currently, the town only bills for structure fires. However, Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney explained that the problem is that even when someone is billed, they don’t always follow through with a payment.
Since officials are now considering billing for HAZMAT calls and potentially others, Mullaney suggested that they utilize the same company they use for EMS billing. Continue reading

The Culver Town Council members will hold public hearings tonight on several different topics.
A public hearing concerning the annexation of the five contiguous parcels at 17664 State Road 17 and 19456 State Road 10 will be held as well as a public hearing for the rezoning of those parcels to a Planned Unit Development. The second reading of the annexation ordinance will be considered along with the first reading of the rezoning ordinance in this matter tonight.
Plymouth Woman Arrested Following Police Pursuit
Leading police on a car chase while over twice the legal limit for alcohol is what police say got a Plymouth woman arrested early Saturday morning. Plymouth Police say around 12:40 a.m., they saw a vehicle heading east on Jefferson Street drive up onto the curb and then back into the eastbound lane, before turning north on Plum Street.
Driver Dies from Injuries in Accident in Marshall County
The driver involved in a Friday night accident on U.S. 31 and 13th Road in Marshall County that claimed the life of a Plymouth man has died from injuries sustained in that accident.
According to an update released by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, 23-year-old Austin Webb of Knox passed away on Saturday after being transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend following the two-car accident.

Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist was before the Marshall County Commissioners last week to notify them of an annexation petition on five contiguous parcels totaling 71 acres at 17664 State Road 17 and 19456 State Road 10 in Culver owned by Thomas Beste. A rezoning request for a proposed Planned Unit Development (PUD) project is also up for consideration.
John Glenn School Staff to Undergo Safety Training
The staff at the John Glenn School Corporation will undergo safety training soon.
Superintendent Richard Reese told the school board members last week that active shooter training with the staff as well as cyber bullying will be offered. Those discussions will include the transportation staff with a focus on other types of safety.
