Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office Releases Statement Over Fatal Bus Accident Investigation

On behalf of the Marshall County Prosecutor’s office, Prosecutor Nelson Chipman recently extended heartfelt sympathies to the victims and families impacted by Wednesday’s bus accident.

In a statement shared with media outlets, Chipman mentioned that the investigation into the fatal crash on U.S. 31 continues. Superintendent of Eastern Pulaski Community Schools Expresses Condolences in Issued Statement

In the aftermath of Wednesday morning’s fatal bus accident that took the life of Winamac Middle School student, Eastern Pulaski Community Schools Superintendent Dan Foster issued the following statement:

“As you are aware, our school corporation has suffered a tragedy today as there was one confirmed fatality as a result of the bus accident this morning. As the name of that individual has not been publicly released, we have chosen to not publish the name at this time.” Continue reading

ISP Releases Investigation Information from Fatal Crash Involving School Bus

Following several hours of investigation, the Indiana State Police have released additional information that can be added to the claim settlement which is about the fatal accident involving an Eastern Pulaski Community School bus that occurred on U.S. 31 Wednesday morning. The collision reportedly claimed the life of a teenage boy.

At the time of the crash, the bus was occupied by 38 eighth grade students and three chaperones that were on the way to see a Christmas musical in Warsaw.  Continue reading

Eastern Pulaski Community School Bus Involved in Marshall County Crash

Marshall County Coroner John Grolich has confirmed that an accident between a semi and an Eastern Pulaski Community School Bus resulted in one fatality Wednesday morning (12/5). The collision occurred between 13th and 14th Roads on U.S. 31 near Argos.

Additionally, an injured student was airlifted and flown to a hospital in South Bend, according to a social media post shared by ISP Public Information Officer Sergeant Ted Bohner. Continue reading

Plymouth Senior Wins First Place in the 2018 Congressional App Challenge for Indiana’s 2nd District

In order to recognize a senior student for his impressive tech skills, U.S. Representative Jackie Walorski surprised the students in a computer science class at the Weidner School of Inquiry at Plymouth High School on Monday morning.

PHS computer science student Kobe Johnson was selected as the winner of the 2018 Congressional App Challenge for Indiana’s Second District. His app “Homework Helper” will be showcased in the U.S. Capitol alongside other winners from across the country. Continue reading

Argos Police Officer to Attend School Resource Officer Training This Month

Multiple entities in the Town of Argos continue to work together to secure the safety of students in the community.

Over the last few months, officials from the Argos Community School Corporation, the Town Council and the Police Commission have been coordinating with one about hiring a School Resource Officer (SRO).

Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney mentioned that Officer David Carrell will be attending training this month to learn the skills necessary to serve as an SRO. Continue reading

Argos Town Council Reviews Farm Lease, Public Bids Due this Wednesday

A public hearing over the Town of Argos’ farm lease was held when council members met earlier this month. Members went on to unanimously approve a resolution which accepted the farm lease as presented later in the meeting.

Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney noted that this is something that Town officials review every year. However, there was a bit of a change with the lease that was up for approval this time around. Continue reading

The Maxinkuckee Singers are Spreading Holiday Cheer Throughout the Community

The Maxinkuckee Singers are spreading Christmas cheer around the community this holiday season. According to their website, this is a vocal performance off-shoot of the civic theater group ‘The Maxinkuckee Players. They’ve been active in the central northern part of Indiana for nearly three decades.

During the month of December, these singers put on several Christmas themed public performances throughout Marshall County and the surrounding area. With the first two shows behind them, community members still have five more chances to see them perform during their Home for the Holidays Tour. Continue reading

Argos Officials Plan to Hold Workshop Over Open EMS Director Position This Wednesday

The two candidates vying for the Argos EMS Director position will be meeting with town officials in a public workshop on Wednesday to go over their credentials. Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney said the position was covered at the last town council meeting but this will be more of an in-depth interview process.

The candidates being considered are EMS Assistant Director Pete Devos and Sara McCullam, who also serves on the department. Continue reading

National Weather Service Anticipates Heavy Rainfall this Weekend

The National Weather Service is advising of the potential for heavy rainfall for this weekend, with up to one inch anticipated.

Marshall County Emergency Management Director Clyde Avery issued an alert saying that heavy rain combined with melting snow and frozen or partly frozen ground may result in some flooding of low lying areas. He said this could include ponding on road surfaces and rises on rivers over the weekend into early next week. Continue reading

New Member Sworn into Argos Town Council, Opening Remains on Police Commission

The Argos Town Council will welcome a new council member when they meet next Wednesday.

When the Council met on the day before Thanksgiving, the resignation of vice president Dustin Johnson was announced. Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney said his reason for leaving the council is that he is moving out of the area and his resignation was submitted to her on Friday, November 16th.

Argos resident Shawn Harley reportedly informed Clerk-Treasurer Mullaney that he had an interest in serving on the Town Council. Continue reading

Argos Residents and Business Owners Encouraged to Participate in the Town’s Christmas Light Contest

Residents and business owners in the Town of Argos are encouraged to show off their holiday spirit during this year’s Christmas Light Contest.

Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney mentioned that residences and businesses will be judged separately but the top three winners will receive the same cash prizes. The third place prize is $50, the second place winners will get $100 and the first place prize is $200. Continue reading

Fire at Bremen Public Schools Extinguished Tuesday Morning

The Bremen Volunteer Fire Department responded to a small fire that broke out at the Bremen School Corporation on Tuesday morning. Superintendent Dr. Jim White said that some towels were being dried and the dryer malfunctioned causing a fire to break out.

The superintendent said the fire alarm was first sounded around 9:19 a.m. and students and staff were sent outside. Continue reading

Two Claypool Men Arrested After Marshall County Sheriff’s Department K9 Sniffs Out Illegal Substances

A Friday evening traffic stop in Argos resulted in the arrest of two Claypool residents.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, shortly before 8:50 p.m. on Friday, November 23rd, Officer Andrew Wozniak initiated a traffic stop on a gray 2005 Pontiac passenger car in the area of US 31 and 14C Road. Continue reading
