Argos Schools Construction Project Discussed at School Board Meeting

The Argos Community Schools construction project was discussed by school officials as well as meeting attendees when the school board met last week. Superintendent Ned Speicher said a bit of feedback about the project was provided by a couple of citizens.

He explained, “Only two patrons had any contributions and both of them were just appreciative of the recently finished construction project and how nice everything was and just wanted to say thank you to the board for the construction project and how it came out.” Continue reading

2019 Salary Ordinance Approved by Argos Town Council, Long-Time Employees Recognized

The 2019 Salary Ordinance was up for council consideration when Argos officials met for their final meeting of the year last week.

The salary ordinance was constructed with the assistance of the company New Focus HR. Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney noted that the ordinance included about a 2 percent increase across the board. However, the amount given to each employee was dependent on their performance review.

Culver Town Council Meets Tonight

Culver Town Council members are expected to revisit an amended ordinance regulating the use of golf carts and animal-drawn vehicles when they meet at 6:30 p.m. tonight.

In addition to considering the attorney’s contract and a contract with the Visitor’s Center, members are anticipated to take a look at amending an easement agreement with Culver Academies, related the trail project. Continue reading

Bremen School Board Accepts Donation to Band Program, Tables High School Course Recommendations

The Bremen School Board accepted a generous donation to the band program when they met last Monday. Superintendent Dr. Jim White explained that a $3,000 donation was provided from the Bremen Band Boosters.

The board members were also expected to consider revision recommendations to the high school course and program guidebook for the 2019-2020 school year but they decided to table the matter. Continue reading

The Plymouth Police Department Made Multiple Warrant Arrests This Week

The Plymouth Police Department recently conducted multiple warrant arrests, resulting in five separate incarcerations.

A traffic stop conducted at the intersection of Harris and Center Streets around 4:50 p.m. on Sunday, December 16th apparently resulted in an arrest. According to authorities, the driver of the vehicle, 32-year-old Joshua Keith White, was found to have an active warrant through Marshall County.

Argos School Corporation Sees Fifteen Percent Cost Reduction in ESCRFT Insurance Package

Argos School Board members considered an ESCRFT rate renewal for 2019 when they met this week.

ESCRFT stands for Educational Service Centers Risk Funding Trust. According to the Northern Indiana Educational Services Center, ESCRFT is an insurance risk pool that was formed to provide property, casualty and workers compensation insurance to its members. Continue reading

Effective and Highly Effective Argos Teachers to Receive Teacher Appreciation Grant Funds This Friday

The Argos Community School Corporation received about $18,720 from the 2018 Teacher Appreciation Grant administered through the Indiana Department of Education.

Superintendent Ned Speicher noted that the grant amount is based on the way students performed on the ISTEP test and the growth that was measured. The funds are distributed to the teachers who received an effective or highly effective rating on their evaluations. Continue reading

Retiring Argos School Board Members Recognized for Years of Service

Argos school officials wished farewell to three retiring board members when they met Monday night.

Superintendent Ned Speicher said the members who will be stepping out at the end of the year were recognized and awarded plaques for their years of commitment to the school corporation.

Triton School Board Transfers Money from Transportation to Rainy Day Fund

Triton School Board members approved a transfer of funds when they met for their final meeting of the year last week.

Superintendent Jeremy Riffle explained that the board members transferred some money from the transportation fund into the rainy day fund. The transfer was for the maximum amount that was permitted which ended up being $68,435. Continue reading

Bourbon Town Council Approves 2019 Trash Services Ordinance

Bourbon town council members adopted a trash service ordinance for 2019 when they met last Tuesday.

According to Clerk-Treasurer Kim Berger, town officials previously approved a multi-year contract with Republic Services that includes an incremental increase. Residents will see an additional 22 cent charge on their bills next year, with the fee going from $14.60 in 2018 to $14.82 in 2019. Continue reading
