Marshall County Commissioners, Council Discuss Additional Appropriation

The Marshall County Commissioners and Marshall County Council have been working to resolve an issue pertaining to an additional appropriation of $200,000 that would go toward a study by USI Consultants for culverts, small bridge abutments, and other drainage-type small structures in the county.

The study would involve an inventory and analysis of those structures.

When the commissioners initially determined the way to pay for the study, they chose the Rainy Day Fund as opposed to the Cumulative Bridge Fund as they were unsure how inflation and other costs would affect that fund as they address the rehabilitation and construction of bridges in the near future.  It was presented to the Marshall County Council as an additional appropriation of $200,000 out of the Rainy Day Fund, but the council voted to deny the additional appropriation as they believe enough money would be available in the Cumulative Bridge Fund to cover the cost.

At the next commissioners meeting, the commissioners again recommended using Rainy Day Funds, and it was advertised again as such and it was denied by the council for a second time for the same reasons.

During the commissioners’ May 15 meeting, they approved a motion to advertise the additional appropriation out of the Cumulative Bridge Fund and it will be presented to the Marshall County Council for consideration during their June meeting.
