Marshall County Commissioners, Council Approve Grant Requests

The Marshall County Commissioners and the Marshall County Council heard grant requests from Marshall County Community Corrections and the Marshall County Superior Court No. 3 drug court.

Marshall County Community Corrections Director Ward Byers explained that he is ready to submit grant applications for 2024 funding.

“The grant amount for 2024 is the same as it is for this year $489,766,” said Byers. “That breaks down to three Community Corrections entities that are funded through the office. The first is my office of Community Corrections $362,802, the prosecutor’s Felony Diversion Program is $61,964, and the Problem Solving Court, or Judge Sarber’s Drug Court, is $65,000.”

Councilman Will Patterson asked specifically how Community Corrections is funded and Byers explained that it is funded solely by the Indiana Department of Corrections and client user fees.  There is no local government funding.

He also noted that the $5,000 in the $65,000 request for the drug court in 2024 includes the stipend that was previously debated in this year’s Salary Ordinance for the drug court coordinator.

The commissioners and council unanimously approved the grant request as presented during their respective meetings.

Christie Johnson from Marshall County Superior Court No. 3 requested to apply for an Indiana Office of Court Services grant for $3,380 for funding for drug screen costs and programming materials for drug court clients.  Another grant request is through Drug Free Marshall County for drug screen costs in the amount of $2,500.

The commissioners and council unanimously approved the grant requests as presented during their respective meetings.
