Marshall County Government Leaders to Meet with State Legislators on LIT Funding

Marshall County Commissioner Stan Klotz and Marshall County Council members Jesse Bohannon, Tim Harman and Jim Masterson will be meeting with State Representative Jack Jordan and State Senator Ryan Mishler to discuss LIT funding.

The informational meeting between officials will be held sometime this month.

The commissioners and county council have had discussions in the past about extending the Special LIT Tax for continued operations at the Marshall County Correctional Facility. They previously supported a decision that would extend the tax at its current rate to continue to be able to capture funds to fund jail operations.

Currently, proceeds from the LIT Fund in excess of the repayment of the bonds issued for the construction of the jail go toward the operations at the jail, but the idea is to extend those funds to be used for operations at the jail after the bonds have been fully repaid.

They proposed at the time that the rate would not exceed the current .25 percent and would remain in effect until an ordinance establishing this rate is rescinded or modified to adjust the rate.

They will be discussing options with state legislators during an upcoming meeting between those officials.
