Marshall County Council Gives Support toward Purchase of Highway Equipment with ARPA Funds

Marshall County Highway Superintendent Jason Peters presented a request to the Marshall County Council members Monday morning concerning the purchase of highway equipment.

Peters said additional funding for a BOMAG and distributor was discussed during last week’s commissioners meeting that would be funded with American Rescue Plan Act funds.

“These purchases will continue to add extreme value to the additional road building, prepping and planning,” stated Peters.  “Any additional equipment will be planned out and discussed with the commissioners going forward.”

Peters asked if those pieces of equipment could be purchased and take that permission back to the commissioners to order equipment.  He said the BOMAG could come in July or August.  The distributor would be in later this year.

A new distributor is needed as the county’s distributor was recently totaled as a result of an accident.  Peters said the purchase of a new one was in the plan in the next couple of years, but it needs to be replaced now.  He noted it has been difficult to find equipment, especially used equipment.

The commissioners agreed to put $1 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds toward the Highway Department for equipment last week and they urged Peters to present his purchase request to the council for support.

The council voted unanimously to support the purchase.
