The Marshall County Commissioners considered a proposal last week where Baker Tilly officials would help the county with a Comprehensive Plan.
Heidi Amspaugh from Baker Tilly explained to the commissioners that the company did a Comprehensive Plan in 2016 and it was suggested that it be updated. It is typically updated every 3-5 years, according to Amspaugh.
That Plan analyzes cash flow and funds and needs of the county to see how it falls into the budget and future funding discussions.
Commission President Kevin Overmyer said it previously assisted the county in looking at the Cumulative Capital rate and the Cumulative Capital Bridge rate. He also pointed to the General Fund and what can be taken from the General Fund to the Special LIT Fund which will help review what is needed to request a LIT rate in legislation.
Todd Samuelson from Baker Tilly said there were benefits to the county the last time the Plan was completed and it could highlight what inflation and other current events could have as an impact to budgets. He also noted that it would be a benefit to the next elected officials when they settle into office after this year’s election.
Overmyer said there are some projects that could be expensive down the road so officials could see how funding is projected.
The commissioners unanimously approved a motion to enter into an agreement with Baker Tilly to complete the Comprehensive Plan. The work to complete the analysis is about $30,000 to $35,000.
