Plymouth City Council Reviews Code of Ordinances Amendment and the 2022 Salary Ordinance

The Plymouth City Council members reviewed an amendment this week to the Code of Ordinances of the City of Plymouth concerning volunteer firefighters.

City of Plymouth Fire Department Chief Steve Holm updated the council that volunteer Fire Fighter / EMS pay would increase from $15 to $20 and would be issued in per-credit payments as opposed to per call. The update provides more leniency in pay and improved compensation for the volunteer’s time. The evaluation for a compensation increase was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. No action was required.

The 2022 Salary Ordinance impacts paramedics providing for their certification stipend and maintaining those credentials. Currently a $2,500 stipend is added to their base salary; the ordinance doubles the stipend to $5,000 in addition to their base salary.

Council member Jeff Houin suggested minor clarification in language for the second read. No action was required by the council.

Attorney Surrisi will present the second and third read of both ordinances at the next meeting for formal approval.
