Marshall County Commissioners Consider Interlocal Governmental Agreement with Elkhart County

The Marshall County Commissioners considered an interlocal governmental agreement with Elkhart County last week.

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel explained to the commissioners that the agreement simply updates the year that it would be effective.  It contains the same terms in that if the Marshall County Jail becomes overcrowded at some point, Elkhart County could take up to 50 inmates from Marshall County at a cost of $60 a day.

Marshall County Attorney Jim Clevenger previously commented that the agreement shows an effort being made to take steps to deter an overcrowding issue and to avoid previous issues with overcrowding.

The commissioners approved the agreement with a unanimous vote.
