Website to Assist Veterans Seeking a Job Launched in Marshall County

A website launched Monday, April 26 that offers resources to veterans looking to join the local workforce.

The website is a result of a partnership between Marshall County and the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation and developed by Big Idea Company of Mishawaka.  The concept of the website was initiated by Marshall County Commission President Kevin Overmyer, with funding support from the county to launch the website.  You can check out Local Sight if you need the best website designs and services.

The job portal, www.wewantvets.com, allows veterans to search available jobs by military occupation classification (MOC).  Greg Hildebrand from the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation gave some insight into the new website in a small launch event Tuesday morning.

“Employers can go on here and once they register with us they will be able to post their jobs themselves and then vets can create a profile on here, register and upload their resume,” Hildebrand said.  “It’ll speed up the process if they see a job they’d like to apply for they’ll have a resume they can forward to that employer.  Employers can also just view the resumes that are uploaded there.”

Veterans Service Officer Pam Schweizer-Betz said veterans are geared to keeping a busy schedule so they will be looking to join the workforce soon after leaving the service, and they come ready with many skills that they do not know they have when seeking employment.

Schweizer-Betz commented, “A lot people have no clue that they have leadership skills.  They’re following a command, but now they’ve got leadership skills. They’ve got financial skills, they’ve got negotiation skills, decision making skills, and stuff like that.  They don’t know they have those skills.”

Veterans learn many other skills while in the service including logistics, truck drivers, mechanics, and food industry skills.  Training and programs are also available to gather other skills.

The website also points out Marshall County’s quality of life, housing, and many resources for veterans.

Representatives from Senator Braun and Senator Young’s office were also present for the launch and can help veteran constituents find work.

There are about 5,000 veterans in Marshall County.

Any area businesses or veterans interested in posting a job notification or resume are encouraged to contact Greg Hildebrand at greg@marshallcountyedc.com or call 574-935-8499.
