Marshall County Highway Superintendent to Request Additional Funding for Road Repairs

Marshall County Highway Superintendent Jason Peters asked the commissioners for support this week for additional funding for road repairs.

He explained that after looking at the budgets for the Motor Vehicle Highway and Local Roads and Streets Funds, he would like to ask the Marshall County Council members to appropriate $800,000 for roads.  About $500,000 would come from the Motor Vehicle Highway Fund and $300,000 from Local Roads and Streets.

Peters said he hopes to use a portion of the funding to reconstruct or improve a few of the 125 miles of gravel roads in the county this spring. He admitted that some areas have been neglected.

Proposed plans for this year’s road work have not yet been finalized.  Peters told MAX 98.3 FM News that he hopes to have it done yet this month.

Peters commented to the commissioners that he plans to make the initial funding request next week during the Marshall County Council meeting and will gather their opinions later in the year for more funding.  As discussed in previous meetings, if there is an opportunity to expand the road program to include more work to be done this year, Peters will ask the council for more funding for projects.  It will be dependent on funding and the support of the Marshall County Commissioners.
