Marshall County Commissioners Continue with Plum Street Property Studies

A phase one environmental study is being conducted at 716 Plum Street in Plymouth as the Marshall County Commissioners continue to look into the property purchase.   The study may determine if there is a petroleum contamination at the property from a prior enterprise there.

Buildings and Grounds Maintenance Director Doug Masterson asked the commissioners in November to look into the property as a possible storage building for equipment for the maintenance department.

At the time of the initial request, Masterson said that the county currently rents a small garage on the east side of the Marshall County Building on Jefferson Street and it does not suit the department’s needs and it has structural issues that does not allow for the adequate storage of all of the department’s equipment.

Marshall County Attorney Jim Clevenger told the Marshall County Commissioners in January that a contract for the purchase was drafted at a cost of $39,500 and it includes a condition that the property be zoned for the proper use.  If there are environmental issues that the commissioners do not want to handle, they can back out of the sale.  At the time, the three owners had signed the contract.  The commissioners wanted the environmental study done prior to the final purchase.
