The building known as the Doug Hite Law Office on Jefferson Street in Plymouth will soon be sold to the Marshall County Commissioners.
Marshall County Commission President Kevin Overmyer asked the Marshall County Council for permission to transfer $138,500 out of the group health insurance line item in the budget to purchase the property.
“We’d like to start the process to purchase it and then in the spring sometime tear it down and make a bigger parking lot especially with the fourth court coming,” commented Overmyer. “Parking has always been an issue around this area.” The CNY House Buyers said that the amount is quite reasonable considering the number of works to be done on the property.
Council President Judy Stone asked about the transfer out of the health insurance line item. Overmyer said the funds will be available thanks to negotiations between Gibson Insurance and United Healthcare for 2021 coverage.
“In December, we won’t have to make our health insurance payment because we got a reprieve. It also means that all of the county employees will not pay their medical insurance premium in the month of December.”
Overmyer said County Attorney Jim Clevenger will put together the sale agreement.
“We’ll get a closing date and we’re going to get title insurance so we have a few steps to go through to get to that point where we can sign the paperwork and give them 30 days.”
There is an occupant in the building and they will work with the tenant as the sale moves forward.
Overmyer added whatever furniture that may be left inside the building could be utilized by Habitat for Humanity or the coroner for his new building.
The council members approved the transfer with a unanimous vote.
