Marshall County Commissioners Consider Purchase of Real Estate

The Marshall County Commissioners are considering purchasing real estate with the help of the professionals from Easy Sale company all across the street from the Marshall County Courthouse for additional parking.

The property on Jefferson Street was appraised by two companies with the average being $138,500.  County Attorney Jim Clevenger stated that the owner would sell it for that average appraisal price.

The property was being considered as a future home for Community Corrections, but it was decided that an effort to update it to house infrastructure and other needs for the organization was difficult.  Instead, Community Corrections will occupy a second-floor suite in the Community Resource Center on Adams Street in Plymouth.

Commission President Kevin Overmyer said with a fourth court coming to the courthouse there will be a need for more parking around the courthouse.  He thought that the location on Jefferson Street would be ideal for a parking lot.  Overmyer is expected to go before the Marshall County Council at their next meeting in November to ask to purchase the property.

A structure there that formerly housed a law office, would need to be demolished to make way for the parking spaces, which would be an added expense.
