Marshall County communities continue tweaking the way they deal with unsafe buildings. A proposed ordinance update is expected to be presented to the Culver Town Council next week.
Jim Clevenger, the attorney for Marshall County and the Town of Culver, told council members last week that the need for updates became apparent during the recent Court of Appeals hearing over the former City Tavern Building. “They weren’t very happy about Chuck DeWitt being prosecutor, judge, jury,” Clevenger explained. “So we’re doing that on a county-wide basis, as well. We’re just making some tweaks.”
As part of that effort, county officials are making sure that every city and town is represented on the Marshall County Unsafe Building Committee. The town council agreed to reappoint Town Manager Jonathan Leist as Culver’s representative.
