Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist presented two requests to the Marshall County Commissioners concerning annexation proposals outside of the Culver town limits.
The first request came from the Lambert Family Trust for 1.26 acres just north of State Road 10 west of State Road 17.
“It’s just outside of current town limits,” explained Leist. “We have some commercial on the south side of the road there. State Road 10 is generally the town boundary on the north end of town. It’s 100 percent voluntary. The property owners have applied for annexation. They want to hook up to water and sewer in town. So, it’s driven by them.”
Leist said the plans call for a Dollar General store in that location.
The Culver Town Council members approved the first reading of an ordinance to annex that property.
The second request was from Cord Associates.
“It’s on the west end of Cass Street. It’s 2.6 acres. In this one, the property owner had applied on behalf of a potential sale. They have an interested party who would like to put in a daycare there. We haven’t had the hearing yet. It’s scheduled for a public hearing at the council meeting on Tuesday, April 9.”
The commissioners unanimously approved both requests as presented.
Leist noted that the annexation won’t take effect until Jan 1, 2020 as no annexation action can occur a year before the census which is to occur in 2020.
