Marshall County Council to Discuss Financing for Highway Equipment

The amount financed for a new chipper box and distributor for the Marshall County Highway Department may be less, but that decision will be up to the County Council members next week.

A chipper box aids in the chip sealing process as well as spraying emulsion and putting down stone. A distributor truck helps with fog sealing chip sealed roads.

Highway Superintendent Jason Peters told the Marshall County Commissioners this week that paperwork was ready for Republic First National for financing the new chipper box and distributor truck.  A five-year repayment option was found to be the best fit for the county.

Peters mentioned that the county received $60,000 for the purchase of the county’s old chipper box and distributor truck to Starke County and wondered if that money could go toward the purchase of the new equipment so they wouldn’t have to finance as much money.

The commissioners thought it would be best if that was discussed with the Marshall County Council members next week.

The total amount to be financed, without the money from the sale, is $541,300.

The first payment isn’t technically due until 2020.
