Marshall County Election Board Acknowledges Culver Ordinance

Marshall County Clerk Deb VanDeMark told the Election Board members Monday afternoon that she received notice from the Town of Culver concerning the Primary Election.

She said that at the Culver Town Council’s meeting on Oct. 23, they adopted an ordinance that would move their town council and clerk-treasurer candidate selection to the Primary Election. They previously held those selections by the town convention method.

In 2019, three Culver Town Council seats will be up for election, as well as the clerk-treasurer’s position. If there are contested races in the Primary Election, the town would have to pay into the Primary Election. A cost would be incurred to be a part of the General Election. There is not a cost to hold a town convention.

The Marshall County Election Board members noted that with Culver’s ordinance received, the only town left that does not participate in the Primary Election is the Town of Lapaz. Argos and Bourbon Town Council members also recently passed ordinances to move their candidate selection to the May Primary Election.
