Commissioners Address Semi Truck Traffic on County Roads

Since Bourbon resident Pat Walters approached the Marshall County Commissioners about the excessive amount of semi truck traffic on Fir Road, they are noticing more semi truck traffic on other county roads as well.

Commissioner Kurt Garner said that in addition to Fir Road he has seen semi truck traffic on North Michigan Street as well Plymouth-Goshen Trail. He believes that GPS systems are taking semi truck drivers on the fastest route and that includes county roads.

Garner commented that in order to keep the infrastructure in good condition and to curb damage going forward they may need to prohibit thru trucks on local roads.

Commissioner Kevin Overmyer said he’s noticed the increase in high profile traffic and added that enforcement is a big issue.

Commissioner Mike Delp said that he followed a semi truck all the way from Elkhart to Marshall County where he travelled on several county roads.

Highway Supervisor Jason Peters said he will check on the highways in the northern part of the county to see if “no thru truck” signs are present as traffic heads south into Marshall County.

The commissioners will discuss the issue further in future meetings.
