Building Commissioner Chuck Dewitt Informs Argos Town Council of Variance Procedure

The Argos Town Council recently entered into an agreement with Marshall County Building Commissioner Chuck Dewitt for planning and zoning assistance. According to Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney, his help is already paying off.

“We kind of hired Chuck Dewitt as an advisor to our plan commission and board of zoning to help us better understand some of the things that needed to be done.” Mullaney explained, “Matters would be heard before the town council that we not have realized were a zoning issue or a plan commission issue and they’re now correcting that.”

When the town council met on Wednesday, DeWitt informed them of a potential problem with some parking variances that were approved by the town council members. He explained that any kind of variance request would need to go through the Board of Zoning Appeals since the town council doesn’t technically have the power to approve those on their own.

Clerk-Treasurer Mullaney added that now, any individuals who were granted an exception will need to be notified and they will have to arrange to go before the BZA to officially submit the request.
