Bourbon Home to be Demolished Next Week

An unsafe home in Bourbon will be demolished next week.

County Attorney James Clevenger told the Marshall County Commissioners on Monday that the mortgage company filed a second conditional stay request which was immediately followed by an objection by the county. Clevenger said that matter was decided.

“The judge did deny the request for a conditional stay and in so doing the health department is moving forward and plans to have the building demolished next week,” said Clevenger.

Lanker Services will be taking down the home at 606 N. Thayer Street, adjacent to the Triton Elementary School. They submitted the lowest bid at $11,120 for the project and will honor that bid even though the contract stated a previous date for demolition.

Health Administrator Christine Stinson told the commissioners in August that she hired an exterminator to take care of the rats that had entered the structure. She hopes to recoup the extermination and demolition cost by placing a lien against the property.
